What was the first home console you played? What was the first home console you owned?

You didn't have to be the one to buy it, but it had to be yours and yours alone.  And I said home console because I am not counting Handhelds.

This was the first console I played:

This was the first console that was 100% mine:

The SNES was my dad's. The green N64 I got for Christmas the year it came out and I did not have to share it.

First console I ever played was an NES in probably '90 that my, according to us, rich West German cousin had. I absolutely fell in love with Mario and would go to his house every day after homework and beg to play for just ten minutes or so.

A few years later, my sister and I put our combined savings together and bought an SNES + Super Mario combo. Only similar pic I could find right now:

Just seeing the Super Mario World box alone is hyper nostalgic for me.

Played - NES - Super Mario Brothers - my parents liked giving a family Xmas gift each year and sometimes it was a gaming console.

Bought - PS1 - MGS - I don’t recall how I bought it. I remember my friend’s dad was able to mod PS1s so ripped games worked on it. I negotiated with my friend to get it on the cheap but I don’t remember how much.

The first console I ever played was my parents' Atari 2600. My first console was the NES. The first console I bought with my own money was the PS1.

Also, the first portable I ever owned was the Gameboy Pocket and the first portable I ever bought was the Neo Geo Pocket Color.

This was the reason I was able to even play more than half of the PS1 games I did play back in the day. I ordered one of those kits in the mail and did the mod with my very tech-savvy friend and his father. We would rent games from the local video store and copy them because his dad had a, for then, state-of-the-art PC with a CD burner.

NES was my family’s first console, we had it while I was a newborn but I don’t ever remember playing it. We gave it to my grandparents after we bought the SNES. I usually count the SNES as my first console.

The first console I bought with my own cash was the 360.

NES to both.

First handheld I played was my younger brother's GBC and the first system I ever bought with my own money was the original DS. First home console I bought with my own money was the Wii at launch.

My parents had always bought me(later they were shared with my brother) systems for Christmas. I'd had NES, Genesis, PS1, N64, and PS2 that way.

Played was Pong. Played a lot of 2600 at other peoples houses. Most of my early gaming memories are of the 2600.

My parents were very anti-gaming. I had to buy my own everything. First console I owned was an NES, it took me a year to save up for it and that was in 8th grade.

The first I ever played was probably the SNES with Mario Kart. :daydream: My parents would rent one from the local video store as a special treat (once or twice per summer, max). They always rented it on a Saturday afternoon and my sisters and I would play Mario Kart from Saturday afternoon until Monday morning when the SNES had to be returned. We got maybe five hours of sleep per night. I was probably around 8 or 9, I would guess.

The first I ever owned myself was the N64 when I was 13, and I think Star Wars: Pod Racer was my first game, along with Mario 64. I had the N64 and my own TV in my room, courtesy of my lawn-mowing business. :daydream:

Same here. My grandparents had a 2600 first,  then a 5200. My first console that was mine was a Colecovision with the adapter that played 2600 and Intellivision games :D first Console that I bought with my own money? I think it was The Sega Saturn. Edit: Certain I bought both a Genesis and a Super Nintendo before that.

Old Playstation ones didnt even have to be modded, you could just do the disc swap trick. I did get a Modded PSX on college though. That was the only time I had a modded console.
