She should be financially on the hook for any and all COVID-19 related expenses and losses incurred by any of the folks she infected. That includes all these people who may have been working now having to call out sick and go into quarantine because of her depraved indifference. Dock her pay for the rest of her life until she's paid everyone back if she can't afford it.

On the Nextdoor app in my area, someone named a preschool in the area where a teacher just tested positive.

My wife quit her job about 3 weeks ago at a different preschool (mostly in preparation to teach our kids from home at the end of August). With the way cases are shooting up I'm urprised we're not shut down again.

Death panels have started in southern Texas

Quote

McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — In a stunning admission of how dire the COVID-19 situation is in South Texas, the health authority for one border county on Tuesday announced the formation of an ethics committee that will screen all patients for survival potential and will send home those with low probabilities.

Starr County Health Authority Dr. Jose Vazquez said Starr County Memorial Hospital, the county’s only hospital, on Tuesday implemented an ethics committee and a triage committee to review all coronavirus patients as they come in to determine what type of life-saving equipment and treatment they would likely require and whether they would likely survive. Those deemed too fragile or sick or elderly will be advised to go home to loved ones, he said.

Starr County Health Authority Dr. Jose Vazquez speaks via a video conference call with media on Tuesday.

“There is nowhere to put these patients. The whole state of Texas and neighboring states have no ICU beds to spare for us,” Vazquez said Tuesday afternoon during a video conference call with media.

My two local school districts pushed back any in person learning by a month. Will re-evaluate in another 4 weeks. Really dumb that they will try and switch from distance to in person 5 weeks into the year.

If someone never got tested for COVID, but tests positive for antibodies, does it count as a positive case? Think so, but was not sure.

I think each state handles it differently

We just had a Town Hall meeting online for California hospital practices, and some interesting facts just came out of it:

-Yale has found that women's immune systems are better at staving off and making it through the virus (with both men and women being equally exposed). Men are more susceptible to catching the virus and have a much tougher time getting through it (having both permanent lasting effects and a higher mortality rate because of it). And men with high sex drives are 3x worse in dealing with the virus than men without.

-Hospitals want to do racially targeted testing, but are being fought back by local government because of the current protesting climate (mostly in So.Cal). It's been found that latino men are at higher risk for contracting Covid because of the type of work a large portion of them endure, and there's a debate whether traditionally Latino neighborhoods should see more attention being paid to them versus all neighborhoods receiving equal attention.  Our governor is thought to be in a deadlock of what to do because So.Cal is protesting (more) violently while Nor.Cal is staying safe with social distancing, and racial targeting might incite further physical protests that will put more people in jeopardy with the virus.

-California is seeing a large surge in positive cases because of So.Cal and its "passageway" into the state from other southern states (starting from Florida down through the bible belt). But the governor's office is thinking that if So.Cal is called out for being irresponsible, it will just create worse violence and a worse outbreak. Currently Nor.Cal is trying to set up some guidelines to present to So.Cal for them to follow, but Nor.Cal knows the state is going to fail as a whole because our governor will never be willing to isolate the lower half of California and treat them differently. And with Nevada wanting to open up casinos more-so, the travel path of the virus could connect from Florida to California, and then up north to Reno where it will spread out to middle America.

-Right now, at best guess in the current environment, whatever treatment that's made won't be ready for distribution to the entire US populace for at least another 18 months unless major hurdles are dealt with for the US as a whole - complete shutdown of large social gatherings and their buildings (arenas, theaters, hotels, restaurants, etc), a steady stimulus of money to keep people housed/fed/clothed, and guided protesting that keeps everyone separate from each other (policing and leadership that will keep large groups and their activities down to a minimum).

I don't believe the gender data, if only because a huge % of medical professionals still believe that black people experience less pain and have thicker skin (literal thicker skin), and that women have a lower tolerance for pain, so take their complaints less seriously.

I think you're conflating totally separate issues here. Women are being hospitalized in lower rates and dying in lower rates. It's in the data.

I’m pretty confident that this has less to do with public safety, which is why it should have been canceled, and more to do with high profile Republicans announcing they were not going, and the less than full attendance of Donald’s rallies. Donald (or more likely the RNC) do not want to appear weak by having almost nobody of note speaking, and a bunch of empty space due to low attendance.

This. One thing I constantly see on social media for Trump cultists is crowd size comparisons. They seem to think crowd size equals votes. If that were the case, Bernie Sanders would be trying to get re-elected rather than be the runner up for the second time in four years.
