Roe v. Wade is dead

Because of this thread, I just went to go vote in my local Democratic Primary for district attorney, local judges, circuit court, and school board.

My ballot was 6 pages long. 90% of the ballot were races where the candidate for judge or court position was running unopposed. I had a choice for DA and 6 judges of various courts.

This is the way.

I mean, I like seeing people angry, but it's too late. How do you fix this?

It does nothing unless the protestors start surrounding the homes of senators like Machin, Sinema, Murkowski, and Collins.

I know I'm gonna get bashed on for being defeatist but you really can't. Our problems are large, multifaceted, some can be traced back to the start of this country, and at this point require solutions that the system is unwilling to do. There are just too many problems and contradictions to use a Marxist term and they are all probably past the tipping point at this stage.

As one of our resident history nerd you need to not get to this point in the first place and that is hard.

I know. It was really more rhetorical. It's frustrating to always see people getting riled up after the fact when it was allowed to happen in the first place.

Unless they’re talking about expanding the court the only difference this would have made at this point or going forward or even in some mystical past where roe is codified into law is the plaintiff would be different. It would be Dobbs v garland instead of dobbs v whole womens health. They’re doing this explicitly because they know they have a group of conservative bona fide psychopaths who want women to die and there’s literally no other check on their power. It’s a power play and not one based on law or reason or technicality. It’s Calvinball! It’s an ideological crusade! It’s one in the same!

Oh spare me.

This isn't even on par with something like the Reality Winner leak.

Everything I am hearing from actual legal experts, even if they find this appalling professionally, is that nothing done here was illegal.

At worst is was a norm buster. And one I would have a little sympathy over if not for the fact that the GOP just spent the last decade pissing on every "norm" imaginable.

This is a public document that was written to be made as public as possible. The GOP's obsession with "leaks" from the Trump years has well and truly turned into "revealing the horrible things we intend to do to the public is a violation of our right to privacy!".

And again, no garentee this was even a liberal with an ax to grind!

We talked about other possible conservative motives for releasing this and after reading more of the actual opinion another one came to mind.

This is well and truly bordering on the edge of Fox News primetime, throwing shit at the wall, hair on fire type of rhetoric.

Alito fucking included the ad hominem about abortion being about black genocide for christ's sake.

This may have been a conservative worried that Alito would take out some of the more vitriolic language either through simple edits or Roberts whittling it down with horse trading. By doing this, they increase the chance that the final ruling is maximally horrible.

How do you solve this? The same way you solve anything on a national level: Incredible violence.

Which won't happen, because people are angry but never quite that angry unless they're literally starving or something.

So, we’ll see renewed efforts to fight for paid maternity leave, universal pre-K and expanded child tax care credits from the left now, right?

One 12-pack of Biden-branded diapers (retail price subtracted from your EITC), take it or leave it.

Whenever I get to take a break from work. Smoke hella sativa weed and type up mu thoughts on socialism. I'm gonna mention this post.

That is something interesting and it probably has been studied but our present situation raises a question. Why are slides to fascism seemingly more popular then a socialist revolt? I theorize it's because fascism isn't a super drastic change in society so it appeals more then a socialist revolution. I think as you stated so long as there is a shred of comfort to hold on to they won't want to really rock the boat.

Requires more thought though.

The violence comes from indignity. No one on this planet, left or right thinks things are going right. All this talk about groceries is apt from a country that gets bored of it's own wars. What if I go hungry? What if people help you?

You’re right actually and that’s very bad

Lol at this talk of violence from folks who haven't experienced actual violence  mofos need an inspirational figure to do something as simple as vote.  The notion that anyone is gonna put their actual asses in harms way is giving me a hearty chuckle. Keep em coming guys... this thread is golden

Obviously not the best metric, but 2x Republicans turned out for the Senate Ohio Republican Primary than the Democratic Primary. I don't think this is going to turn out Democrats.

The Republican primary got a lot more press and was a little more contentious.  The Democratic nomination was going to be Tim Ryan and that's that.  The Republican was the fairweather MAGA grifter vs the right wing loon.

The flip side of this is that there's a special election for a state legislature seat in Michigan in a safe R district and the Democrat might pull of an upset

It’s because intelligence often comes with more caution.

it’s like:

hey RICKY! Wanna go get arrested?

ohh, may I ask you Richard? Would you join me in a grand task that may lead to one’s death?

No violence is coming from the left. The right? Sure. Right-wing terrorists are already the biggest terrorist threat this nation faces, but from the left? What leftist figure would inspire that? There's no religious ferocity on the left. Not only that but our law enforcement agencies are all right-wing, so they'd stomp out any left wing violence faster than you can turn on water hose. Hell, they were stomping out peaceful left-wing protests not even that long ago.

I have more problems with the proverbial family on an island scenario where everyone is smacking rakes at every step. I've seen it happen.
