Joe Biden beats Donald Trump, officially making Trump a one-term twice impeached, twice popular-vote losing president

Either the Republican Party eats itself alive and splinters, or they coalesce around this horseshit and suffer a long, slow decline in public support, parallel with the decline of their constituency demographic.

But they'll still control the Senate most of the time, the House some of the time, and the Presidency half of the time because of the massive institutional advantages the Constitution provides (and gerrymandering, etc).

Also, the inherent advantage of the media just refusing to acknowledge what the party actually stands for. Consider that Maggie Haberman at the New York Times and Johnathan Swan at Axios yesterday both separately reported that even Trump loyalists in his immediate circle are disturbed by his behavior and think that something dangerous might happen in the next month. You might think that that would mean that the newspaper would determine based on that that you, the reader, should be equally disturbed by what's going on and cover it across the entire paper like it's a national emergency, but they're just.... not. You're just supposed to treat it like it's a weird curiosity, it seems like.

Then you have the stimulus negotiations, where the GOP is putting in poison pillsthat are explicitly designed to sabotage Biden's presidency, but every headline is just something banal like, "Congress fails to reach agreement on stimlus"

This gets said every time a Republican loses the presidency, yet, the GOP digs their heels in and moves further to the right and somehow remains.

And Trump got the second highest vote total of all time, second only to Biden so it's not like it's a static group that is still small and the world is passing by.

While I don’t see a massive drop off in support, I do wonder if the next GOP candidate can really pull people in like Trump did.  People were enthusiastic for him, the problem for the GOP was people were more enthusiastic AGAINST him.  In a much more boring election, I do wonder what happens.

White baby boomers aren’t a static group, they’re slowly disappearing. The real problem of course is that alternate reality news programming is now hard-baked into that “side” of society. Only time will tell how much of it sticks with the younger generations.

Cool only gotta wait for four more presidential election cycles and hope that some other culture war greivance (or even material concern!) doesn't start winning voters over to them in the meantime

An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You should never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience. (what I think of every time I read the thread title)

Everytime I see an escalator undergoing major repairs I think of this claim. It isn't stairs when there's a fence up at each end and the "steps" are stacked against a wall. Temporarily stairs is more for when it's just stopped, rather than broken since even with minor repairs you can't use them since they're blocked off.

What about the ones in China that have opened their escalator mouths and mauled people?

Ever had twice-baked potatoes? There are different ways to do it, but I like to bake a potato, split it open after, fill it with the stuff I like and mash the inside up a bit (bacon, butter, chives, etc), close the skin back up as best as possible, and bake it again. It's like mashed potatoes inside a baked potato, with all the "fixings."
