Bought Guacamelee and Nex Machina on the cheap in the PSN sale.

I've somehow come close to beating it already and yet I don't really like Guacamelee. Nex Machina is REALLY cool and fun though and I can see myself sinking some time into this. I've never really sat down with a twin stick shooter but this is great from the get-go.

I'm about to finish up horizon zero dawn, great game but also feels like a huge missed opportunity. All the weapons are a bit too similar or too clunky it takesa lot of the wind out of sails of destroying some of the towering behemoths. A few small refinements to the combat and character progression and this could've been a truly genre defining game rather than just another very good open-world game.

Next up will be persona 5 royal or Nier Automata.

I could see it if the combat or platforming never gels.  Personally, I loved it.

Still working on platinum'ing Demon's Souls.  On NG+ currently.  I don't plan on save scumming so I might have to go NG++ or +++ to do it, but we'll see.

I didn’t like some of the trophies they included. Just needlessly complicated things in some cases that require completely different builds.

I haven't run into anything my build barred me from just yet (STR tank build), except I had to get to 10 in faith and magic because the miracle/spell vendors won't sell to you otherwise.  Aside from that I've been able to pull everything off to this point.  My only sticking point currently is getting all the spells and miracles; because of the boss souls necessary, I think I might have to go to NG+++ to get them all without save scumming.

I actually think the combat is really good, just don't really care for a lot of other aspects. Reminds me of my reaction to Hollow Knight, another Metroidvania I should've really liked on paper but it just devolved into feeling tedious and off to me.

Another one I loved, haha.  I really enjoyed the traversal in both games personally, for different reasons.  Did you like Super Metroid?

Hell yeah. Metroid is one of my favorite series which is why I assumed I'd love both of those by default. I absolutely loved the unofficial Metroid 2 remake as well more recently.

Interesting.  Guacamelee is more of its own thing.  But at least to me, Hollow Knight takes everything good about Super and amplifies it (including the length).  It's the game I wanted Metroid Fusion to be back in the day.

Totally unrelated but have you played Nex Machina? I can't stop playing it. Ended up replaying just the first stage four times in a row tonight looking for secrets.

Nope, but I own it.  I really liked Android Assault Cactus, I should probably check it out.

I need to check this out.

Its become clear that as much as I love CotDG, I am not skilled enough to beat the last three temples unless they balance the curses better. By the time I get to the final boss of a temple (first temple level has one boss, second has two, third has 3, and all it takes is one bad room to completely destroy your playthrough, or one bad curse (some curses actually help you, others can destroy you).

Like, I finally got to the last room before a final boss, had full health, thought I was good. Then I ended up in a tiny room with a poison trap in each corner, and 5-6 enemies. It was impossible not to trigger the traps, and it ruined my run. Its getting too frustrating.

Nex Machina is a Housemarque game. Maybe you should be asking @SaysWho? about it

It's good. The real meat is playing the levels on harder difficulties since there's no co-op.

I would suggest people not sleep on Matterfall either. It's an overlooked fun Contra-like game Housemarque released last gen.

That happens very rarely, but its controller throwing maddening because I had already beaten two bosses in that temple and my health was full. I lost more health in one room than I did in the rest of the temple.

Not the same thing but speaking of being cursed, this reminds me of a PvP incident I recently had in Demon's Souls. I was struggling with 4-2, had just died and was on my way back to something like two levels worth of souls. Before I could reach my bloodstain, somebody invaded me and blasted me with Plague and watched me rapidly die from an exact distance that wouldn't allow me to drop my guard and go for the healing item.

I was actually angry beyond wanting to throw the controller and somehow entered a completely calm plateau of sheer hate where I simply got up and walked out of the room and laughed with the game still running.

Bonus: I also wasted that consumable to resurrect to full human status.

I’m playing and enjoying Control (bar the slowdown - but ah well) but one, random thing that’s spoiling the game is the camera will randomly start spinning to the left. I tried shutting down and restarting the game but it carried on. I haven’t restarted the console yet so will see if the issue is gone tomorrow. So far though, combat is good, I have no idea what’s going on - but I’m interested none the less.

Trekking through Mortal Souls right now. I have a few days on the couch { More like 30 DAYs !! } from 2 back surgeries on the 23rdd and the 25th , so I have some serious gaming days ahead. After Mortal Shell I'm deciding between God of War on the PS4Pro, The Medium on the Xbox1X or FFVII Remake also on the PS4Pro. I think I'm only about 2-5 more hours left in MS so I'll need to pick one ASAP!

What are you playing on? I just put a lot of time into Control on PS5 Performance Mode and never had issues like that honestly. Curious if it's on PS5?

The lore is actually incredibly good, the story and Jesse for that matter are kind of secondary.

PS4 and it happened again today and the stopped. I’m pretty sure it’s not my controller but I’ll try my other one out to see if that helps. It’s just very annoying when you’re trying to find your bearings and the camera just keeps revolving endlessly and then decides, for no real reason, to stop.

Also tried out Undertale - fine so fair and I’m interested to see where it goes, though I still need to finish Told Story off at some point.

That sounds really frustrating, sorry man, I never played it on PS4 so I can't comment. I know I read that version ran like dog poo several times though.

I'm playing Talos Principle.

I bought that, Outlast and Shadow Tactics for some absurdly low PSN sale prices, never played any of them. I loved Talos at first, and love what it's doing with its atmosphere and all, but this is the second puzzle game after The Witness that is ending up feeling like a depressing chore later on. I think I just like puzzle games in theory apparently.

And jesus, fuck those later Tetris puzzles. Obviously there are people who love solving these but I hate these with a passion.

I loved The Talos Principle, except for when it tried to dip into platforming. Like the puzzles where you had to jump at a certain point at a certain time. First person platforming is always kind of clunky, and when it hit a point (in a puzzle game no less) where I KNEW the solution to the puzzle, the problem was I just couldn't line up the jumps correctly, I got frustrated.

Also, beware, it took me over 20 hours. And I wasn't ashamed of using a guide if I just didn't get a puzzle.
