What are you playing today?

I think I’m done with Ragnarok. I still have a bunch of checklist stuff I could do, but backtracking through the world to clean that up got boring pretty quickly.

So now I’m fully onto Returnal. I’m starting to get a feel for how it all works, and it’s really getting its hooks into me. Although I might need to pick a cooldown game to switch to after a couple runs. :p

I hope you can learn the mechanics and eventually beat the game. Too difficult for me but I did enjoy what I played.

Playing through Jedi: Fallen Order since the last time I touched it I didn't get far and someone gave me a BD-1 Lego set for Christmas, so I may as well finish it before the next game comes out.

My first go at it I didn't more than a few hours in, but I'm now recalling my complaints. I don't love the combat, even though I'm pretty sure I'm doing much better this go around (probably thanks to all that time spent in Elden Ring). I don't mind the combat for bigger fights, but it's so freaking slow for everything else. Any combat system that primarily relies on getting a parry in first sucks, but it really sucks when you're a freaking Jedi with a light saber and you have to play a patience game with every freaking storm trooper equipped with a zappy stick. Not to mention the killer fauna running around. I like a good fight, but I also want to feel powerful at times. I can understand the "we need to make every enemy a threat" mentality, but it's not my preference.

I'm also not a big fan of much of the platforming. So many freaking slides! I'm not having as much trouble with those this time around either, so I do wonder if they patched something, but it's still too easy to miss jumps. They also really could have used a fast travel system. There's no way in hell I'm backtracking far when the most likely thing I'm going to find is a cosmetic for my light saber. It also gives me appreciation for level designers that make games flow so smoothly, like Metroid Dread. Basically every level in Fallen Order ends with mild to moderate back tracking for no reason I can deduce. Just put in a lift or a landing pad that allows me to call the ship or something.

Thankfully, there's an easy mode in this game. Otherwise I'd probably have bounced off it again. This time I had no qualms about turning down the difficulty and enjoying the game. Despite my complaints, there is a lot to like. It still looks great on my PC, some of the puzzles are pretty decent, when you're not sliding around some of the platforming is even more fun than most similar games.

How far are you in?  I don’t feel the same about the combat, but maybe that’s because I’m still not far enough.  (And haven’t played a fromsoft game)

I like the slides, they’re not nearly as excessive as something like PoP 2008.  I’m really digging the map design as well, it’s nice to play another 3D Metroidvania that understands how to do it.  Though I’m with you on cosmetics rewards for secrets being dumb.  It’s worse for those rare times it can be a life or force upgrade instead.

So, I’m on dependent care today as my little ‘un isn’t well. This started with her Nana, but at…2 years and 4 months, she already likes games. She’s now asking me to play games on my phone and loving them for 5 minute bursts. So…that’s what she’s playing.

When she has a snooze, either I’ll be working or digging into REmake.

Prey (2017)

Beat this one again for the third time now and this game is just so damn good. Some of the most impressive level design out there.

I absolutely loved it until near the end. I litteraly got stuck in where to go next and YouTube wasn't of any help! This was only last October I believe. Great game.

Coral nodes on the Talos I Exterior per chance? The game kind of falters in its objective descriptions in the last few "missions" and relies too heavily on the objective markers which I always turn off. That objective is like finding a needle in a haystack without them.

Yes! I litteraly gave up finding the last one.

I'm not kidding, it's around the corner from the first one in a crevice above you. I hadn't played it in probably three years and forgot this part entirely and it took me about half an hour or more to find it. I was so pissed when it turned out to be just above the other one.

Wtf. I may have to go back to it and see if I can finish it then. That's confusing af.

I stopped playing God of War: Ragnarok because I’m not really in the mood for a big third person action adventure game that will take me weeks to finish, I’ll play it again when I am. I bought a lot of games from the PS Store holiday sale that I want to check out. I started playing one called System of Souls which has been a really cool first person platform puzzle game with stylish sci-fi graphics that are like a mix of Mirror’s Edge and Portal. I find it very aesthetically pleasing, especially since it runs at 60fps. The platforming is challenging, and the puzzles are clever and fun to figure out. It reminds me a lot of the Portal games which is a good thing, and I would recommend it to fans of that series and first person puzzle games in general.

Ha! I’ve got a few new games I stopped halfway through and just started replaying this instead. It’s so good

It's pretty daunting. There is just so much to do. It took me 5 years to finally attempt to properly play it.

Maybe after this I can tackle games like Skyrim, GTA, The Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed, Xenoblade, etc....

I'm getting close to beating TLOU 1 on PS5. It's a good game and controls pretty nice on the PS5 controller. It's just imo part 2 is leagues better than this in all regards.

This is such a basic game with easy puzzles.

Also, I take back what I said in the past. TLOU 1 does look a bit better than TLOU 2 especially with facial and hair detail.

I can't wait to play part 2.

Beat TLOU 1 and now 10 hours into TLOU 2. Remarkable stuff.

I'm disappointed it comes out after the series premiers on HBO for the PC. I wouldn't buy a playstation for them though. Sony's first party games are great but not Nintendo tier I need to buy their hardware for it.

I was looking at my vita recently and wanted to use it again so I decided to finally start playing Danganronpa. I've sadly had this in my collection for ages (even have the follow up sealed for vita, lol). Enjoying it so far but have a few complaints, #1 it overcomplicates the courtroom with too many mechanics, #2 WTF does there need to be a rhythm portion...uugggg

Correct. My Sony 1st party outside in the modern era is limited to what's on the PC. I haven't finished any of em but atleast I expect the Spider Man games to get completed.

Btw I hate how Sony Spider Man is a narc.

@chakoo In the same boat. I am in it for the waifus though. I hated the rythem game. Fucked me up.

Played through Portal RTX this weekend. It remains an amazing game, though the fully path traced lighting wasn't always super apparent.

Played through some more Doom (2016) and am enjoying it quite a bit.

Started The Last of Us: Part 1, and while it's a game that didn't really need a remaster, it looks amazing, and remains a superb game.

Today I played through The Looker, which is a free game that is a parody of The Witness. It's kinda funny, has a couple legit puzzles in addition to some jokes, and only took an hour or so to get through.
