Dead Cells

I'm at around 15 hours I think and I'm getting kind of bored of it despite the great core gameplay. The final boss sucks fucking major ass design-wise and I have no interest in grinding through another 20 runs to beat this thing.

It's a really fun game but the level design is too repetitive and boring for me.

I just bought Resident Evil Zero for a few bucks last night. It looks great, it controls well but man, I was two hours in and gave up. This partner system is so obnoxious, the item management sucks ass and is them completely overthinking something that did not need to change and already worked well. First boss fight is a giant...Scorpion! On a train! Okay, no, I'm good.

I just replayed RE1 Remake and that game is a masterpiece so I expected this to be at least a chip off that block. It's just fucking annoying.

I put RE0 as the 6th best game in the series, if you like Re games and it sounds like you do....give it another go, it's worth it. That scorpion was pretty unexpected the first time, pretty cramped fighting but it has pattern like all bosses in the RE series.

I think my issue is going from RE1 Remake straight to Zero. The drop in tone especially is rough.

I've been doing a KOTOR dark side run, and man is it hard to go for the dark side points sometimes! I don't mind being a backstabbing bastard, but making fun of aliens and the differently abled is too mean!

One of the most brutal playthrough of a game I've ever had. Some of the things you do are just downright cruel.

Compared to a Renegade in Mass Effect you just are a jerk.

@stepee what are you playing?

This is a great question. This weekend I’ll definitely be progressing more in Witcher 3. But I also started Kaze which as @TheLeon mentioned is essentially Donkey Kong Country 2 with brighter hand drawn art. It’s quite good. Also playing more Pokémon.

Ill probably hold off on sports story until the first patch though I already bought it, sounds p buggy. Oh and I’d like to get some more time on F.i.s.t this weekend too.

Which Pokemon game did you get? Is it worth it beyond all the glitches and jank?

I went with Violet because the Pokémon you get on Scarlet, which is your vehicle, is really really fucking dumb looking.

I think it’s worth it as long as you are fine with a low ass frame rate. The glitches and jank aren’t really a deal breaker at all. It’s a large open game, and it probably could use a few patches as they all could, but it’s nothing game breaking.

I think Legends is overall better if you haven’t played that, but that’s because besides running smoother it’s more real time than turn based. If you are a fan of more old school Pokémon you’ll probably prefer Violet. It’s still close for me though because structure wise and having towns and nicer environments, Violet is better.

The main kicker for me to preferring Legends overall (mind, I have a lot of Violet to go, only three gym badges in, so this may change) is that the pokémon you keep out with you isn’t quick enough to stay on screen so there’s almost no point in doing it since they just zap away in two seconds. And you can’t bring all 6 of your pokémon to hang out on screen at once like in Legends, which made for many a screenshot moment.

But if you already played Legends or just want something more in line with previous entries but much more open, and don’t care too much about the frame rate in particular, Violet is a good time.

Game Pass grab bag

Tunic - took a bit to get into but I am digging it quite a bit.

Prodeus - doom inspired FPS. Gameplay feels good. Will be one of those play a level and put it down type games for me.

Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga - I appreciate the work done for these games. I just can’t for the life of me enjoy them.

So, after a period of reflective I’ve decided to delete Mass Effect Legacy Collection. I’ve beaten the game before and can’t really spend time going to something I’ve already played. I’ve tried out Bugsnax which was OK, but in the end, Yakuza: Like a Dragon was too tempting, so I’ve downloaded that.

Also, against everything I wrote at the start of my post, I downloaded REmake…

Went back to F.I.S.T and played the hell out of it yesterday so looks like we are going all the way with that one. It’s pretty damn good! Definitely a good deal at $0. I didn’t realize it was Metroidvania or I would have probably paid for it and sooner. Good movement feel, fun combat, and graphics that like FF7 pre rendered backgrounds but side scrolling in real time 3D. Even sewers look good in this one. Serious FF7 midgard vibes though yeah.

Story is okay for Chinese government propaganda. I like all the characters.

It’s more like one of the more linear Metroids as far as exploration but it still scratches that itch for me.

I think I’m done with Ragnarok. I still have a bunch of checklist stuff I could do, but backtracking through the world to clean that up got boring pretty quickly.

So now I’m fully onto Returnal. I’m starting to get a feel for how it all works, and it’s really getting its hooks into me. Although I might need to pick a cooldown game to switch to after a couple runs. :p
