That’s like saying there’s no reason for Star Wars games because of Mass Effect. They’re completely different.

There's been a good variety of LOTR games, even if they haven't all been great games. I'm interested in seeing what this looks/plays like. 

They threw him into Shadow of Mordor as fan service, which seemed tone deaf then. Now a whole game about him?

 

I love the LOTR universe. Gollum would be one of the last characters I would like to play as. 
 

I typically prefer when games are made based off of other fictional licenses that they tell stories about unknowns, set in that universe. I just think it’s a lot more interesting.

I would imagine it would play as a stealth game.  Gollum before he lost the ring was pretty deadly.  Most of what is seen of him in the movies is long after he lost the ring and he had been tortured... and he was ancient.  So he was not in top form.  While he was living under the mountain he was strong and deadly and invisible with the ring.  For a game it would be easy to limit the use of the ring because before long you would be 'seen' by Sauron who would send wraiths after you. 

 

They would need to come up with something for him to do however.  Killing goblins out of boredom or just to eat, would not make much of an exciting game.

I don't think there is a release date, but there is a vague 2021.  So possibly launch window, but not at launch.  Launch window is the new term for somewhere in the first 6 months I think.

I mean, it’s not that new. They leaned into the idea of the “6 month window” pretty heavily during the 360’s launch.
