Pedo guy megalomaniacal manchild officially owns Twitter

Recommended Posts

Word on the street is that Twitter is thinking about a new feature of premium videos so you have to pay to unlock the ability to view them.  Given that porn is one of Twitters growing markets, it might be in the short term the only bright idea they’ve got going.

Long term however, I do wonder what’s going to shake out.  I remember a bunch of prevalent porn sites had credit card support dropped although I never bothered to see how that shook out.  I can see advertisers turning a blind eye to the fact that porn exists on the platform by default but once it becomes a significant part of the bottom line how many start to bail?

Twitter and Elon are in a no win situation of their own making.  Either you piss off all the chuds who have been dick riding you as some bastion of free speech by NOT flooding your platform with the worst people imaginable or you do let all the assholes back in causing even more people to flee and reduce it to yet another right wing echo chamber that is memorable only for being a money fire visible from space.

That is quite the step up from 25%

I mean, this was happening either way, even if Musk hadn't bought it. Tech stocks, especially Social Media, are being savaged. They can't afford to keep the ridiculous level of staffing most of them have. Facebook is in the same position.

If anything, I would say previous executives held off on the layoffs to force Musk to do it instead.

If previous reporting is true and Musk increased interest payments exponentially, there’s no reason to assume it would have been this drastic this fast.  Meta seems to be bleeding money and talent because they jumped with both feet into the web 3 pit and just kind of assumed they could create that market themselves.  Twitter, to my knowledge, hasn’t committed anywhere near that amount of resources into new development.

Twitter’s over staffing seems to be more along the lines of the broader tech industry growth over the last 6-7 years where it has been a bit aimless. We haven’t seen the same level of innovation out of big tech that we were seeing the ~2010-2015 range, but headcount’s kept growing in the new products departments.

Impossible for us to know how much fat needs cutting, but it appears 10-20% at most firms is the starting point.

This is likely a situation where Twitter could probably survive/use a 10-20% cut, but also that Musk will cut the entirely wrong areas (like moderation, etc).

You mean like when hundreds of Twitter mods were locked out of being able to use moderation tools, but Twitter swore this was normal and shrinking their mod team from hundreds down to barely more than a dozen would have no impact on rules enforcement?

Pretty much this. 10-20% is a healthy cut if you need to trim staff but anything past that and you're not cutting fat, you're gutting your company. There is aways a knock on effect and you will loose additional staff when making cuts, the larger the cut the larger the additional staff you'll loose.

just met an elon fanboy irl holy fuck

I went to get my MBA part-time between 2015-2019. That's after getting my law degree in 2009-2012. At those levels and classes, there are more than I ever thought possible. The amount of tech and wall street bros that love Elon Musk and automatically drink his Kool-Aid is next level. The amount of beta men just looking anywhere for a faux alpha male is hilarious to me in this year not of our lord, common era 2022.

Honestly, at this point I just recoil physically the minute some tech bro, law bro, or wall street bro opens or starts early with: "well, Elon Musk is a genius, look at -". Whatever good and bad Musk has done, "genius" like he's Albert fucking Einstein is bullet to my own brain worthy level of stupid.

That's the key thing, isn't it? These people that are worshipped don't even have actual, positive character traits that would make them role models. What these losers (followers) crave is the sense/projection of fake manliness (which is really just a "fuck you, I can do what I want" attitude) rather than any actual "manly" traits (leadership, charisma, competence, etc).

It was wild he was all going on about how he is fighting for free speech and taking away twitter from being left controlled and about how he has doge coin investment because he believes in elon and that elon believes in it so it’s gotta be good and it was a lyft so of course it was a tesla. He went over all the boxes and I kept steering him away and eventually just went on a long rant about the dangers of algorithms which he was able to get on board with.

Elon is awesome. He could have cashed his chips in long before Paypal and lived on an island somewhere, but he parlayed his fortune over and over and it paid off bigly. Sure he's probably a dick head, he's the wealthiest human on the planet. Steve Jobs was an infamous douchebag, even to his own child, and he's is praised to this day by the tofu eating Whole Foods crowd.

Beyond the one liners, watch the Tesla AI demo days videos on Youtube, the guy is a genius. Anyone denying that is simping for some social virtue signaling.

Some would say going to that much college is pretty stupid but I'm not one of them!

I really really hope you're being ironic. Elon is a fucking moron when it comes to AI.

He's actually pretty stupid in a lot of dimensions, but I can say with authority that he blows goats when it comes to understanding AI tech.
