First thing I wondered. I remember these games mainly being kind of difficult at times because the controls were incredibly unwiedly even for the time.

I'm still curious to revisit these especially with updated controls but I think the biggest bummer here will be the soundtrack. They're not mentioning it and I doubt they re-licensed all those tracks and I think 80% of my nostalgic memories for these games is based on the radio stations ironically.

The original ports that were yanked from storefronts had all of the songs, no? I’m not an IP lawyer but I would think that suggests R* has active licenses.

They did not. They were actually ports from the mobile games I think, which had nowhere near the full soundtracks. That is from memory though, I could be wrong.

No. You're absolutely correct!

Spoiler

I don't know if you were right or wrong but wanted to say you're right to make you feel good. Don't you feel good?

Updating the controls and maps are going to be HUGE for them though. GTA3 and Vice City are probably my favorite games of all time, but they had some shortcomings in the controls department, I will freely admit. Applying GTAV controls to all of this trilogy is enough to fix those shortcomings and have this be the... Definitive Editions...

Yeah it will def help. You can just die at the drop of a hat in that game and get shot from weird angles that you can’t see, though maybe that is significantly alleviated by the controls.

I just think the major appeals of those games were story (basically mass popularized the gritty realistic story with pro voice actors) + open world chaos that we had never seen before, and at this point those things have been iterated on so much that if you are coming to the games for the first time they will seem pretty shitty.

I dunno how much I played of each but it was well over 100 hours, and most of that was just causing chaos and trying to escape… we’d just pass the controller and do “runs” basically. That appeal won’t be there for most people now.

It might actually make the infamous RC helicopter mission in San Andreas actually playable!

I had more trouble with the mini planes but using Xpadder it controlled like a dream!

Also the Xbox versions of these played better than the playstation, they actually did change the controls for them.

I don't think I've ever actually finished a single GTA game before come to think of it. The novelty and fun in those was always randomly fucking around for me. I'd do missions, sure, but I'm not sure I ever actually finished one. I'd usually get my fill before that and drop it. I'm not sure how much time I spent in San Andreas getting as fat as possible and riding the bike.

I really wish they'd done a bit more on the graphics, but I really would like to know if these will be moddable on the PC. If they are, I would expect the already impressive mods that exist for these games to get upgraded versions eventually, and that could draw me back.

I really loved these games back in the day, but not yet convinced I'd actually play through these again.

I’m surprised to see people dunking on the graphics, we knew this was coming to mobile and switch so it would be on the lower end of things, and this honestly is a lot better than I was anticipating!

Since they were going to have to scale all the way down to mobile devices, the cartoonish style was a great choice, I didn’t think of going that avenue, I think it’s actually a great look for these when watching the trailer.

This looks like it will be great for portable and I’m in as long as the switch version is indeed solid, if not then I’ll get it when the deck is out.

It looks like a sharper version of the old graphics, which just kind of looks odd.

It looks like a mix of old and new tech, with a cartoon shader to hide the discrepancy some. It seems to have more modern effects and textures and materials but the polygon count and geometry is the same.

Im just surprised they put in as much work as they did. It has a kinda of clean charm to it, it’s really a goofy series, I think in the trailer it looked like they pulled off some good compromises for the amount of work they’d be willing to pay to do this thing.

I don't get the hate towards the shit where you have to hang with your friends or whatever. It is nearly completely optional. I think there is only one or two times you have to do it. Sure, you get called about it, but you can ignore it just like you do in real life.

My question is what system I’ll get it for. If it runs great on the Switch, I’m getting it on there because I love the idea of playing GTA in my bed.

I'm going Switch cause GTA on handheld and the OLED Switch will be great.
