Rockstar is also bringing the games to PS5 and Xbox consoles, naturally

All these remasters will use Unreal Engine and mix old & new visuals


the PC and mobile ports might slip to 2022 

 

Rockstar Dundee is leading development (according to a source this is why RDO has been getting smaller updates)

 

all 3 games to be sold in one package, digital only

 

if this sells well, RDR remaster is a real possibility

I'd like for this to be true, but I have doubts.

 

For one, why use Unreal instead of R*'s own engine? Almost makes me wonder if there's an outside company doing this instead of Rockstar Dundee, provided the rumors are in fact true. Given the rumors say both Switch, and Mobile are part of this release, RAGE is not officially supported by ARM last I recall, so maybe for parity sake, they offload it onto a different engine that is both scalable, and supported by all platforms? Obviously, using the old RenderWare engine would be out of the question, given its age.

 

If it is an outside studio, and not an in-house remaster like the rumor says, my bet is on Panic Button because...why the hell not?

I know. This is utter bullshit. Remakes/remasters are out of fucking control. I want to play fucking new games. Christ, right now I'm play SS which is 10 yrs old. Wtf is going on. Then my next game I'm playing is finishing ME2. Another god damn remaster from years ago.

I'm curious as to how these will play compared to GTA5. If all the mechanics (except character switching) in that one - the bigger map, wildlife ecosystems, and all that - aren't brought over or refined, I don't know why I'd go back except for just nostalgia's sake, but eh.

I played through 3 and Vice in the last few years. They don't hold up very well at all, but I happen to enjoy them anyway largely due to nostalgia. I have a hunch San Andreas holds up OK though. 

 

My concern would be the soundtracks for Vice and San Andreas. The mobile version IIRC were vastly scaled down, and those soundtracks were some of the best parts of those games.

It’d be cool if R* revamped shooting in general. It’s been the worst aspect of all their games up until RDR2, in which everything to do with the controller was the worst part of the game.

 

Also if they’re gonna do this they should port the PSP GTA games.

If by violence you mean accidentally punching my horse or making gentle, incidental contact with an NPC who aggros every second amendment stan in the area about my “transgression” more quickly than Professor X could let the X-Men know Magneto is in town, then yes, I agree.

My favorite part about RDR2's sheer idiocy in terms of gameplay was when you'd rob someone in the middle of the countryside and suddenly you're public enemy #1 with ten bounty hunters spawning in plain sight approximately twenty feet away. No, wait, not as awesome as walking two feet the invisible wrong way and failing a mission because it's not as cool.

My favorite RDR2 moment was starting a mission, having my horse follow the road to get to the mission waypoint, wondering why this mission was so far away form its start point, only to realize that the game set some invisible waypoint for my horse on the other side of the map. Then when I got to the mission and veered off the expected path the game didn’t bother to establish at all, I failed.

 

In conclusion RDR2 is a game of contrast.
