Finally a Nintendo console that's powerful enough to play a GTA game!

Ironic considering the Switch is so weak compared to other platforms! I read some comments on Twitter and there are people out there doubting the Switch will be able to run these games...like, how weak do people assume the Switch is?!? I mean, the idea that it can't properly run PS2 games from damn near 20 years ago is just...LMFAO

Oh, I also enjoyed the other comments about "oh, GTA on Nintendo? That's too violent for that platform!" As if they don't already know that games like DOOM, Mortal Kombat, Saint's Row, Driver, Manhunt, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Splatterhouse, and oh yeah GRAND THEFT AUTO have all been on Nintendo platforms for YEARS. Not to mention games that originated on Nintendo like Perfect Dark, ZombiU and Eternal Darkness.

I swear most gamers out there look at Nintendo and consider it only for playing Mario Kart and not much else.

I'm not sure there is any irony here. But maybe also these people assume these remakes are going to be more than ports. I think it's not going to be anything substantial so the Switch should be able to handle it. At the same time "able to run" seems to be a subjective term. Cysis "runs" on the Switch, but it's not pretty.

I think they have a family friendly reputation. After all the Mortal Kombat you note here HAD NO BLOOD. Also, Spatterhouse games only appeared on the Genesis (I know you're referring to the Wii version but that is so much later). It wasn't until recently they kind of opened the flood gates to anything. Heck, even those shady Japanese escort games on the switch now. So yes, now it seems perfectly normal but if you had said this several years ago people would think "too violent"

I mean yeah. Until the Switch came along it was pretty much console exclusives or bust.

I'll admit I wasn't expecting a multi-layered response to my post! Cheers, mate. I won't be as fancy but I'll answer your responses as such:

1.) I suppose "able to run" is subjective, so agreed on that point. Also, I totally forgot Crysis is on Switch! :o

2.) Meh, the Mortal Kombat you reference was all the way back in the early '90s. It's been a long time since then. (and after that whole debacle, every Mortal Kombat since then on Nintendo has been just as violent as any other version - plus Nintendo themselves put Killer Instinct on SNES and they didn't stop DOOM from arriving on SNES...though maybe they should have, lulz) And besides all the history Nintendo has had with violent games (including GTA), you kinda said it yourself; recently, the flood gates are open. It's my opinion that people have labeled Nintendo as "family friendly" - they didn't label that themselves. They have always been "Nintendo is for everyone" and I think that holds more true than just being a family/kid company.

3.) Bah, why though? That's just what the liberal media wants you to think, don't fall for their lies!

What the hell is that...? It looks like a really tasteless 'cartoon' mod or something. My first reaction was that it looks terrible.

That was my first thought as well, but the more I look at it the more I kind of like it? Gives off a claymation/stop-motion vibe which, given the horrific amounts of violence in these games, might work!

I wonder if they’re balancing the gameplay at all. GTAV style shooting on a controller is still bad… it’s still a R* game. But GTAV style controls are still meaningfully better than the original games, and I imagine they’d make all the encounters pretty trivial.

First thing I wondered. I remember these games mainly being kind of difficult at times because the controls were incredibly unwiedly even for the time.

I'm still curious to revisit these especially with updated controls but I think the biggest bummer here will be the soundtrack. They're not mentioning it and I doubt they re-licensed all those tracks and I think 80% of my nostalgic memories for these games is based on the radio stations ironically.

That quick restart failed missions is a life saver if y’all don’t remember. Half the time spent in those games was driving back to a mission where you had died from some bullshit.

Man I feel like this is a set of games that if you didn’t play them around their release you’re gonna be wondering what all those old people are smoking thinking not only were they good, but some of the best games of the era. So dated and bad by today’s standards.

Updating the controls and maps are going to be HUGE for them though. GTA3 and Vice City are probably my favorite games of all time, but they had some shortcomings in the controls department, I will freely admit. Applying GTAV controls to all of this trilogy is enough to fix those shortcomings and have this be the... Definitive Editions...
