Fizzzzle
Come on, let it fly. I grew up conservative, so I have more than I can count. I definitely remember being pro Iraq war, because I thought "if Saddam doesn't have WMDs, he's got SOMETHING goddammit, we need to freedom those people! The most shocking thing for me were the undersupplied hospitals during covid. Personal vendetta or not society needs that shit. That was basically when all faith came down and I decided to reject the American project entirely.

So I still think that this is a branding issue with Democrats. White people in the Midwest and the south feel ignored. They feel marginalised. Whether that's actually true or not doesn't matter. A poor white person from Indiana whose whole family has been cycling in and out of the system hears "black lives matter" and thinks "what about me?" They hear the phrase "white privilege" and think "huh, I must have missed that memo." Democrats actively ignore these people. Republicans enact policies that actively hurt these people, but at least republicans acknowledge they exist. That is, in my opinion, a huge oversight in the Democrat strategy. They need to push socialist ideals to the white people of middle America. Something that actually benefits them. Then, and only then, will Republicans crutch of "gays and abortions, though!" Fall flat.

Fizzzzle
Just now, Commissar SFLUFAN said: "This 'libertarianism' thing doesn't sound half-bad!" Also guilty as charged. Freshman in college fizzzzle was totally down for the libertarian cause. I'm pretty sure I actually voted for Barr in 2008.

silentbob
In Canada I remember telling a Zellers employee (who wouldn’t price match a movie) that it was part of the reason why they were losing to Walmart and going out of business. Well now Walmart doesn’t price match, Target bought Zellers, Target moved in/out after like 2years. So now Zellers is coming back in a limited capacity with hopes to expand again. Chris-
From a personal standpoint I definitely bought into some of the 'nice guy' bullshit when I was in high school...It never got incel-y or misogynistic, but it was still shitty. Thankfully I didn't carry that with me into college. Otherwise I've never had a bad take, because my political opinions are perfect and correct. thewhyteboar
I liked Bill Mahar in high school and college. He was against the war, and I thought that was enough to excuse the rest of vile personality.

I saw Laura Bush leaving the White House and thought that was the coolest thing during the trip. What a nerd
Paperclyp
I didn’t think trump had a shot in hell. I thought Fortnite was gonna be like a 1 month fad. I’m sure countless others. Although they’ve no doubt become more refined, I’ve been pretty pleased with my political views as my life progressed. Especially growing up in an overwhelmingly conservative state / community, not to mention family.

Kal-El814
I said something to a coworker I shouldn’t have about a decade back. I still feel bad about it. Politically I used to support the second amendment. Then I grew a brain, a dick, and a heart.

But yeah, I was the pretty stereotypical conservative kid in high school. It started to shift when I met my husband right before graduation and saw that atheists weren't all evil and scary like I'd been led to believe my whole life. Then college shifted me further. He still teases me about that Bush sticker, though.

Derek
2 hours ago, sblfilms said: I thought Zack Snyder was a great filmmaker Lol. Years ago, I was the same with Michael Bay. 'This guy makes great action flicks'... and then I realized what great action movies could actually be. Like others, I didn't think there was a chance in hell that Trump would win. He did and it was terrible. Then, after he lost his second term, I felt absolutely great. Let the healing begin! But the healing has not begun and things are still pretty bad, maybe even worse. When covid started, I thought Whitmer shutting down our state (MI) was a good idea to stop the spread. We were getting good pandemic money and it gave me a lot of time to spend with my kids. However, it kept getting extended and killed a lot of businesses and eventually ended with me having to send a selfie, holding my license and birth certificate, to the unemployment agency. At the end of the day, it caused more harm than good.
