I am not excusing their behaviour at the time, but Trump's actions since the election have really brought into stark relief why impeachment conviction was never going to happen. Even after he lost an election by a substantial amount that everyone expected him to lose he is acting like this because some Senators limply concede reality after a month and a half(and I don't think Loeffler and Purdue have even done that much). If they had convicted him, he likely would have dedicated himself to destroying the party and with his diehard base and a 3rd party run he probably could have(still could).
