All this gutted bill will do is stop real relief from happening under Biden. “We passed a bill in December and there’s a vaccine now! No need to give more hand outs to citizens!”. Change my mind.

Bipartisan negotiators are still trying to finalize a coronavirus deal with money for states, unemployed Americans and vaccine distribution, but some want another round of direct payments.

This underestimates centrist brain thinking.

"The far left aoc/bernie types and far right josh Hawley types are against the bill, therefore it is a good bill"

Unless the media starts headlining that Republicans are at fault here, instead of "congress", we're going to keep having these issues.

It absolutely sucks how much is riding on two Senate races in georgia

But Sara Gideon just had to sit on $12 million because...reasons.

They should really clarify that the $300/week “Trump approved over the summer” was only for 6-weeks, had stipulations for recipients so not everyone on UI qualified for it, and massively (entirely) drained FEMA funds. It was more to stop real stimulus talks at the time rather than to actually help people.

The Trump-backed plan is said to include pared-down stimulus checks for Americans.

Quote

"The President's proposal starts by cutting the unemployment insurance proposal being discussed by bipartisan Members of the House and Senate from $180 billion to $40 billion. That is unacceptable," they said.

Mnuchin said he had spoken to Pelosi on behalf of President Donald Trump and presented the plan, which he said is larger than the $908 bipartisan proposal.

Quote

The White House proposal came as McConnell suggested to lawmakers negotiating the bipartisan plan that they set aside the two most contentious parts of their talks — aid to state and local governments and a liability shield for employers. Schumer and Pelosi, however, rejected that approach.

Meanwhile, a group of progressive Democratic Senators led by Bernie Sanders demanded that another round of $1,200 checks be added to the plan, with the overall price tag being $300 billion. Senator Josh Hawley, R-Mo., said Tuesday that he spoke to Trump over the weekend about adding stimulus checks to the package.

My favorite part is how Republicans will convince people Democrats are the reason real relief didn’t come and take back the house in two years.

They already have! And they're counting on low growth rates/poor economic activity just like they did by hamstringing the recovery act under obama(who seemed to have thought they were working on a bipartisan basis in good faith)

How

This is a big problem if you go in as a democrat looking for any sense of bipartisanship, Republicans have 0 qualms tanking your efforts at bipartisanship for their own gain. This destroys time and your so-called bipartisan credentials. I fear were going down this path AGAIN with biden so just gg all around.

At the end of the day there is only so much you can do in negotiating when the other side is perfectly fine with doing nothing.

Blame it on voters, our system, or Democrats the problem is Mitch doesn't care and so far has been given little motivation to do so.

I am skeptical that the Georgia races hold much leverage because we just went through an election where their refusal to do a bill should have been met with a huge backlash, and instead they were essentially rewarded for it in the House and Senate races.

Should have negotiated more when you had leverage. Republicans were actually nervous and wanted to do things back in March when the stock market was tanking. That's when you should have done all of this.

Failing that you could have leveraged the Dr jekyll president Trump to push for more before the election as well.

Now we have to hope that Dems take the Senate in georgia which seems to be a complete tossup.
