Supposedly  they will be opening casinos June 4th but will people come? People keep asking when the machines will be available to play at my job.

have you seen the lines to get in the casinos in CA? People will come

Or at least the Morongo opened, not sure if others did. Casinos are open in Az, haven’t seen anything about how crowded they are though.

After being pushed by the left-wing NDP, the Liberal government is going to try and enact a benefit of 10 paid sick days per year for everyone in the country. It's a matter of provincial jurisdiction, however, so it will require the support of the provinces to make it happen. Right now everyone (except Alberta) is getting along, so it might actually happen.

Here is the leader of the NDP on the matter, and how their support for the government (in this minority Parliament) relies on this:

I am kind of curious if that last word means stock in the Wall Street sense, or if he's literally referring to the masses as breeding stock like animals.

Human capital is an actual theoretical term, and just as economists speak of the sum total of extant capital as the ‘capital stock,’ they might refer to the sum total of extant human capital as the ‘human capital stock‘.

Whether it makes for good PR is another issue...

Missouri officials call for Lake Ozark partiers to Self Quarantine

Quote

Images of a jampacked pool party at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri over the Memorial Day weekend prompted St. Louis County to issue a travel advisory and the Kansas City health director to call for self-quarantine of the revelers. The advisory by the St. Louis County Public Health Department cited news reports of large crowds at Lake of the Ozarks, where hundreds of people were recorded squeezed closely together amid the coronavirus epidemic.

"This reckless behavior endangers countless people and risks setting us back substantially from the progress we have made in slowing the spread of COVID-19," Dr. Sam Page, the county executive, said in a statement. The health department expressed concern in its travel advisory that people from the St. Louis area were at Lake of the Ozarks over the weekend. "Any person who has travelled and engaged in this behavior should self-quarantine for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result for COVID-19," the advisory said.

It also says that employers are already being asked to screen workers for health risks and that they should also ask workers about their recent travel. The Lake of the Ozarks region is about 150 miles west of downtown St. Louis.

Good luck...

It's an open secret (even joke) in our society that senior and long-term care homes are horrible places. In Canada, like the US, they are mostly private operations. During the current pandemic they were losing so many patients to the virus (and staff who would not return to work) that provinces requested military aid, which the federal government granted.

It turns out the military has been shocked with what it has seen in the management of these facilities, and has been reporting the infractions and conditions to the federal government through chain of command:

Though this is a provincial-jurisdiction, I hope the government manages to step in somehow. These are massive cash cows that over time have reduced service while increasing fees.

Ford speaks about 'horrific' military report on long-term care conditions during COVID-19 pandemic

Quote

Cockroaches, rotten food, patients with ulcers left bed-bound, staff moving from unit to unit wearing contaminated gear.
Those are just some of the disturbing details in a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) whistleblower report made public Tuesday, based on the observations of its members at five Ontario long-term care homes.

Ontario officials were notified of the report by the federal government Sunday in a memo to the solicitor general grouping the concerns into either non-adherence or non-existence of policies, inadequate resources including trained staff and medical supplies, deficiencies in care home infrastructure and concerns about standards of care.

"It's heartbreaking, horrific, it's shocking that this can happen here in Canada. It's gut-wrenching and reading those reports is the hardest thing I've done as premier," Ford said at a news conference Thursday.

"There's going to be justice. There's going to be accountability," a visibly emotional Ford told the families of loved ones in care homes.

Speaking to reporters, Ford thanked CAF members for bringing their concerns to light, calling on them to extend their mission for an additional 30 days. The premier also said he will be looking into the possibility of criminal charges.
