Its self-WHAT???

Disney is on a plot of land that's its own county like District, where the only "legal residents" are a few high level Disney executives "own" a few undeveloped acres. They elect a Board that runs the District in every respect, including 911 and Fire Department, they could have their own cops but opted to contract with the neighboring Sheriff Departments.

(Wikipedia has taken me weird places lately)

It is pretty much like the Las Vegas strip. The strip is not part of Las Vegas but is an unincorporated population center called Paradise. This was done so the casino owners could avoid rules and taxes imposed by the city of Las Vegas. Since things like the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police is actually a division of the Clark County Sheriff's Department they don't have to worry about contracting out for police or anything like that.

At least the strip is still part of Clark County with a County Government and I guess County Commissioners. I live in an unincorporated area with all the same services as the towns (most North Carolina local services are county departments anyway, incorporated NC cities and towns don't do much).

With Disney, they are the county.

Not really, they are still in Orange County (mostly) and Osceola County (only a small section of their property is in this county).  They have to abide by laws/regulations in those counties. Other than their own emergency services, one of the biggest advantage for them with this setup is for permits to building on property.

Right wing media is keeping up its proud tradition of projection, the current drum they’re beating against Disney is that they are grooming children. You simply cannot make this stuff up.

To be fair I think their concern is more getting beat to the punch.

This is like when Trump would go after Bezos. Even if it's the right thing to do it's for the wrong reason and people should still be pissed.

This is another example of conservatives actually doing what they claim others do.

If businesses have any freedom of speech at all, it should cover a situation like this....but even worse is that a business should be able to express those beliefs without having the state explicitly target them for retaliation with legislation aimed directly at them for expressing those beliefs.

Much like with Trump and billionaires who displeased him, doing the "right thing" here isn't going to lead to a more just system....it's just going to lead to a more compliant elite class too scared to stand up at all to the GOP for fear of financial retaliation.

The Reedy Creek corporate grift, and all others like it, is honestly way worse than Disney or other corps not giving their opinion on legislation. Not even close.

Better grooming than hoarding fetuses tbh.

In the contrary, this stuff is exclusively made up.

It's not like I lived in Florida or California.  I lived in the mostly sane part (Michigan).

Ya the state that almost kidnapped their governor is saner than California. Definitely a hoser right here eh.
