More than one-quarter of people aged 30 to 50 binge drink, according to research funded by the National Institutes of Health

35-50 is not middle aged, I refuse to consider myself middle aged

Scariest part to me is how they end it at 50 too. So once you are 51 you are now elderly

edit: Middle age is now 50-65 and I stand by this.

And yeah I agree 35 is not middle aged. However, the average life expectancy of a male in the US is about 72-74, and 37 is half, so "middle" aged I guess? I think of 45-55 when I think of middle aged. Maybe even more like 47-59.

I’m also in denial that I’m getting old

Well I’m in the marijuana department for sure. I’m sadly 41 now and would consider it middle age, but the numbers are probably higher for marijuana users beyond that 50+ age. This from the latest CNN special I watched and personal experience working a marijuana shop. All I know is that weed has now helped 2 people from being/becoming full blown alcoholics. Prefer the smoke over the drink and is overall healthier and admit makes them motivated on certain strains.

I was never a super heavy drinker, but I did get in a habit during the pandemic of drinking a beer or two every night. We consciously attempted to counter it and I probably average less than a beer a week now. Smoked a little pot in college but never really appealed to me much.

I'm 37.

When I think of “middle aged”, I generally think of those with older teens/college aged kids, but that aren’t themselves quite retirement aged.

But I was born an old man, so at 38, call me middle aged or worse.

I just turned 36. I don’t want to say I’m middled aged.

Thankfully, drinking has never had a huge appeal to me. I mostly just like having a beer or two when I’m out with friends. The idea of drinking to cope with my stress has never seemed appealing to me.

And I don’t do drugs, because of my job. Wouldn’t mind indulging in edibles once in a while, but that would be the time something would happen at work and they would want to drug test me.

The sad reality is that this information is hardly surprising when framed against the record levels of deaths from suicides and overdoses.

More people died from suicide in the United States last year than any other year on record, according to provisional data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The number leveled off after two years of sharp increases, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

36, and beer is my drug of choice. Wish it were less of it though, and I keep trying to cut back.

I tried pot but I have sensitive lungs and it's unpleasant. Not looking to get a medical card either, but I could probably get away with THC microdoses, and that's something I've been looking into to get me off the alcohol, at least some.

look into edibles which can easily be ordered online. Get them in low doses and take one and see if it works, if too light the first time, try 2 and so on. My pot store manager always said “Pretend you’re making a soup. All soups need salt and it’s way too easy to add too much, but even harder to get rid of” Plus look into possible THC oils as well for micro dosing options. If you want good pain relief then look into mixture of CBD/THC. His wife also suffers from MS and would have to cover for him on days off if she had a spill at home. So good reason why he’s big into business and a smart man too.
