A new report suggests that the Uncharted series will be getting a reboot, but not by the developers Naughty Dog.

What developer would you like to see take a shot at Uncharted? And would you want a different style game?  Nathan Drake on a cruise ship that goes into the Bermuda Triangle and shit gets spoooooooooky. RE4 style horror game. I would say remedy but they are super busy. Maybe 4A games

I honestly don't know where else they could go with it. I thought Uncharted 4 was a good send-off for Drake.

They could do something like a survival type scenario where they're going on vacation and their plane goes down or something. Kinda like Lost but without all the weird shit.  (I guess that kinda describes the Tomb Raider reboot but whatever)

By survival I mean the scenario, not crafting water buckets out of coconuts.

That game had nothing going for it besides the great graphics for the time in my opinion. The "platforming" was hot garbage, the fire fights were terrible and there were too many fucking cutscenes. I'm still baffled people thought it was that great.

If they have to remake it, which they obviously do, please give it to someone who can put gameplay that isn't shit into it. Maybe even...gasp...good platforming with actual stakes in a modern 3D game.

But the platforming (climbing) created the template for all Sony games to follow since then!

Reboot and new developer makes sense. ND wants to move on and that saga had good closure. I don’t see why someone else can’t do a good Indiana Jones style type game so let someone try and of course Sony isn’t going to just sit on the IP after the movie made bank.

How about this, give it to Flying Wild Hog and let them make something with great combat. They also are good at diving in to specific genre styles.

i’m fine with another dev taking a crack at it. would have been lame if ND kept making them bc they can spend their time better elsewhere.

a reboot? idk. i think having his daughter be the new protagonist would have been cool. i think they are def going to make drake even younger. pairs better with the movie

For that alone it should have all its remaining copies confiscated and burnt at the stake. I remember a lot of "Tomb Raider" being thrown around and when I realized all you had to do was hold up, and once in a while left or right, to platform, I wanted to break the disc.

I was expecting his daughter to pick up the mantle and Drake would become the new "Sully"

The ending of Uncharted 4 clearly hints at Nathan and Elena’s daughter continuing on in Nathan’s footsteps, and that’s what I expected and wanted from the series moving forward. I’m not interested in a reboot of the series playing as Nathan Drake again, I’ve played as him in four games and that was enough. What made Uncharted: The Lost Legacy somewhat refreshing was playing as Chloe. I could maybe understand them making a prequel to capitalize on the success of the movie, but a reboot doesn’t seem like the right decision to me.

I've played and beat uncharted 1-3 and the vita game. Uncharted has to be one of the worst AAA series. They are so boring.

I still don't know why but I've also played through 1 through 3 and can't stand any of them. Nathan Drake sucks, the whole lame Hollywood popcorn pastiche plot and characters suck even more, the gameplay in general feels like a rote excuse for the constant set pieces and babbling characters. Naughty Dog are the Michael Bay of video games.

I’m not the biggest fan of Uncharted and Uncharted 3, but I really like Uncharted 2, 4 and The Lost Legacy. If you guys didn’t like 1-3 then chances are you probably won’t like 4 and The Lost Legacy either, but I do feel that they’re the best in the series especially better than 1 and 3 which I agree are a little weak.

Love the series but definitely feel like Drake's story has been told. At this point just make a new series, much like this series was a spiritual successor to Tomb Raider the new series can be a successor to Uncharted

Nathan’s story has been told, so I would like them to continue the series with his daughter which the ending of Uncharted 4 made it seem like they were going to do. I don’t know why they would reboot the series instead of doing that, perhaps the success of the movie has something to do with it since they’re probably going to make more of them and want new games with Nathan Drake to coincide with them.

The problem is the entire formula is stale. The “climb this beautiful area but only in a very linear way,” and then have a few shootouts is just so played out. So for me, regardless of Drake’s story being done or not, the series would have to evolve so much for me to be interested and I don’t really have faith that they’ll do that or that they’re even interesting in doing that.

Uncharted 4 had an awesome story, but I can barely recall what I actually did all game.

I’m playing Uncharted 4 on pc off and on and I think it’s still a good game. The shootouts are fun in it and it opens up a little more than the initial trilogy. Lost Legacy also hinted at where the series could go with being more open.

I definitely don’t need crafting, side quests, inventory management, level ups, or whatever in these. Keep them as semi linear action games and just find a way to make the climbing fun mechanically.

I'm halfway through and its just a good feeling game. It screams quality digestible experience. The game doesn't want you to lose, but it will challenge you just enough to make certain you feel like you're gaming. But really, we're all just there for the loveable cast of characters that effortlessly mow down hundreds of people. Those incorrigible rogues!  :sun:

y tho?

Maybe it’s too pessimistic, and maybe passing it off to another dev would give it the breath of fresh air; but I guess until we know the dev / more details I am skeptical of keeping a franchise going that is just so boring at this point. Maybe the movie is painting my perspective too much? It’s just like who is clamoring for more from the uncharted franchise?

I’m about at the half way point too I think (at the jeep level that’s a bit more open) and yeah it scratches a certain itch for me that you don’t get as often anymore. The kind of thing only AA devs make now. And yeah I notice while playing it how expertly designed it can be in how it places enemy’s and obstacles and such in a way that guides you with a heavy hand to making the action look “cool”, there is definitely a certain craft there.

3 might actually be my favorite, it's delightful cheese and jank.  I fell off 4 pretty hard.  Took itself too damn serious, especially with stealth.  One day I'll get back to it.

I can kinda picture a way to make climbing fun mechanically, but it’s hard. Stamina isn’t the answer, and slowly grinding your way up ala Death Stranding isn’t the the answer for a game designed to be moment to moment fun.

It has to be like spider-man but upwards, with hands, and the scale and verticality need to be greater in order to make something like that work.

Edit: I think I’m looking to POP 2008 or something for movement
