Trump voters trust Trump more than their own families.

Recommended Posts

I feel like it's difficult to be too surprised at Trump voters at this point, but this poll still caught me off guard. Some part of me still wants to believe that Trump still has as much support as he does thanks to people who dislike him, but just think he's the Republican with the best chance at winning, but poll after poll seems to indicate that people really do like him, and that just boggles my mind.

How is it that I'm getting MORE nervous about 2024 than BEFORE Trump got these indictments?!

Idk, if your family members have completely opposing views to you, it makes sense that you would believe someone who shares your views and essentially gives you your views.

Assuming the poll goes the other way if you poll dems and independents, my biggest takeaway would be that Trump supporters have more family that is opposed to Trump, which seems like a good thing.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

"Shocking new Trump poll" is as tired a cliche as "This mystery baffles scientists" and " Dems in disarray" stories. But man, every once in a while my cynical self is still a bit surprised how deep the Trump cult runs.

And all for a man who, it's worth mentioning, is the biggest liar in the history of politics.

You shouldn't be anymore worried than before, but you should be worried.

People making noise about the indictments helping Trump are mostly full of shit.

It's like any other terrible person who planned to do something regardless but then justifies their wrong doing by saying "Well you did such and such so you made me do it!".

Or put simply, the indictments aren't making more people vote for him. It's just making his voters louder.

Show me...show me the guy who voted for Hillary in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020....but then says to himself, "I never liked that Donald Trump, but now that he is under 4 criminal indictments I think I am going to give him a chance!".

Bullshit.

A lot of it is conservative smokescreen trying to intimidate people from holding Trump accountable or blaming them for his inevitable nomination.

That makes me feel somewhat better.

Somewhat.

I almost believe that Trump is innocent of the crimes he’s being indicted for than the theory that the indictments will help him. Seems like absolute hogwash to me, and exactly what Chair said, a conservative propaganda spin. It’s just that it’s also picking up depressed democrat voters that are understandably overly pessimistic. Seems based entirely on feels rather than any particular metric or relevant historic comparisons.

Exactly. If you asked me who I trusted more--my wwg1wga cousin or Joe Biden--I'd have to say Joe Biden. So I can see that shoe being on the other foot even though that's dumb as hell.

I'm at the point where I don't take any poll seriously. I just don't think they are a very useful tool in our new ultra-connected world.

I don't think anyone has figured out a way to get a good random sampling anymore.

It's also too easy to inject bias and go fishing for results.

Biden has no advantage across key 2024 battleground states, where half say “Bidenomics” is bad for the economy

I suppose the "good" news for Biden is that it's effectively a statistical tie in those swing states, more or less.  And Trump's "favorable" rating hasn't improved at all.

We're effectively heading into the 2024 campaign with two heavily disliked candidates.

Imagine how bad it would be if high interest rates had already caused a hard landing. Hopefully that doesn't happen, and since it hasn't and Biden is more or less a tied with Trump, I will accept your weird optimism.

It's not hard to imagine that "None of The Above" would actually win the election if it was offered as an option.

It seems early for this polling. Right now you don't really hear much about Trump unless you're following his various legal problems. Meanwhile the GOP got tanked in 2022 because Trump made the midterms a referendum on himself. I don't see any reason that won't come back into play once the presidential election coverage picks up and it's all about Trump again.

It is early for polls and they will change over the coming months. A lot can happen. This poll is a head to head and doesn't account for West or Kennedy.

Even as a head-to-head, I feel like something really major would have to happen to make this not another visceral anti-Trump election for a majority of people given that we've seen that dynamic two election cycles in a row now. Whereas if it was a generic R against Biden and Trump was dead so it was impossible to make it a referendum on him, then I'd really have no idea what was gonna happen.

Speaking of Dr. West...

The professor is challenging President Joe Biden from the left in the 2024 presidential election, running as an independent after dropping a Green Party bid.

Quote

Progressive activist and independent presidential candidate Cornel West received a maximum campaign donation from Republican megadonor Harlan Crow, West's latest fundraising report shows.

Crow made the $3,300 donation in August, weeks before West abandoned his bid for the Green Party nomination to run as an independent. Crow has called West, a self-proclaimed “non-Marxist socialist” and longtime professor at Princeton University, “a good friend.”

Trump lost 2020 by 50k votes. Biden has far fewer supporters than he did in 2020. Trump hasn’t lost many, and seems to be gaining in some demographics, including black men and Latinos. He’s also killing Biden in swing states in currency polling.

your little screed ignores a lot of things in Trump’s favor.

And yet, actual results in elections since 2020 show that Democrats are winning by margins larger than the polls. Trump will bring out the Trump people, but abortion (and other issues) seem to be bringing out Democrats at even greater levels.

Trump will also bring out the anti-Trump people. See: how Trump making the 2022 midterms a referendum on himself went for the GOP.
