This would have been a 50 year bond, so when all is said and done, the tax payers would have been on the hook for over $500 billion million. On one hand, we REALLY needed new schools, but this was a tough pill to swallow. I would have been able to afford the property tax increase, but this is a pretty economically depressed town with already high property taxes. Many people would likely not have been able to afford the extra taxes. I hope that the school board goes back and examines why the bond lost and what they can do to make a new bond pass next election. There's got to be a way to build cheaper schools.
