I cannot conceive of a scenario where that would be possible on any significant scale.

In fairly localized areas of contact? Sure, but in any great depth on any of the fronts?  Not a chance.

better question would be can Russia continue to feed troops and supplies into those areas that are going to get increasingly insurgent with ever passing day.

Absolutely.

I don't believe that he lied in the interview, but he probably didn't relate the whole truth either.

Nor should he because truth is invariably the first and most necessary casualty of war.

He was definitely keeping some card close to his vest.. and was being pretty selective about what those cards were

Yes, a beautiful “developed” (white) city. These terminally online idiots have no idea how impoverished Ukrainian cities are, they all just see this as if little blond and blue eyed children were being shelled on the streets of Zurich.

You know where there used to be a bunch of beautiful developed cities? Syria.

If you haven't been to Ukraine, it would be worth it to listen to Ukrainians. Mariupol has a lot of history and great architecture. And the people of Ukraine aren't impoverished.

Your point about Syria is well taken though.

How does the US (and west) respond if Putin uses a tactical nuke in Ukraine? How does China respond?

I would hope it's one of those things where those under Putin just wouldn't pull the trigger. That happened twice under the USSR. People are generally surprisingly selfless and brave when it comes to not starting nuclear Armageddon

I hope the nuke blows up on liftoff over Russia

Thankfully (or thankfully, depending on your POV), there wouldn't be a nuclear detonation in a scenario like this.  Best case scenario:  The warhead falls off the missile and lands intact and essentially inert.  Worst case scenario: the conventional explosives that trigger the nuclear detonation go off, scattering the the plutonium over a wide area.

Those were short term, emergency situations though.

In this case Putin would just remove people until he got someone to follow the order.

Possibly a full revolt of his entire high ranking military personnel would stop him....but I wouldn't bet on it. Because a coup is what it would take to stop it for sure and a man like Putin may see such a move by generals(even if they made clear that was the only order they would refuse) as tantamount to a coup. Which would cause him to do something that itself might force a coup.
