How did Meuller think this would end other than him testifying...? You were hire to investigate the President and basically on day one decided that you couldn't indict the President but wanted to preserve the record for Congress or a future AG.

Everyone was right when they characterized him at the beginning--he's a Boy Scout.

Which meant he's completely naive and blind to rampant corruption.

I was just thinking about the Slow Burn podcast and how hard it is to see history being made while currently in it. I wonder what things will seem to be important to people looking back on these years that we either didn’t know or didn’t appreciate.

Pfffttt - that podcast has moved on to something MUCH more important for its third season: Biggie and Tupac!

The SDNY's hard right politics. The Comey Letter ruining Clinton's chances. McConnell's refusal to back Obama going public about Russian interference. The media's complacency and complicity in boosting Trump.

The fact Congressional Democrats won't impeach now that Mueller has spoken is downright shameful. There is a moral obligation to history to make a statement by starting impeachment proceedings and do so, the 2020 election be damned.

It's myopic and short sighted to just worry about 2020.

How is he naive and blind to corruption? He followed the law and guidelines for investigation of a president. As he said before, it was up to congress to decide on obstruction, that was never a part of his investigation.

Its funny how liberals now now want to pretend he’s incompetent because the Russia Investigation didn’t go their way.

He is absolutely not incompetent. You're misunderstanding what I'm saying. Mueller had trust that the institutions would function as intended, despite the fact that the institutions only function that way when people in charge decide they will function that way. There are no legal guiderails that keep it on track and keep the machinery moving. It is solely by the will of those in charge that the wheels of justice turn or not.

He didn't explicitly state that congress should launch impeachment proceedings, trusting that they would get the message and do it.

He also trusted that the AG (at the time, Sessions, now Barr) would not be a sycophant for the President and release his report.

At the time he came in, it was Rosenstein's call, since Sessions was recused.

The moment he took the job and agreed that he can't indict a sitting President, he voluntarily became defacto Special Investigator for the House Judicary Committee. The only way that outcome wasn't inevitable is if Trump did absolutely nothing wrong (lol) or if Republicans kept the House (which never happens). The stepped into a political process like it or not. There is no non political method to hold a President accountable.

He’s doing his job by the letter of the law. He flat out says hey if this man wasn’t president I would have indicted him, but because the constitution has this vague rule that says a president can’t be convicted of a crime he doesn’t do it. He’s begging for congress to impeach him, and then trump would likely go to jail once he does not hold the office.

The house and senate won’t do it, and it’s bullshit.

Then he needs to fully cooperate with House Judiciary, this is like a cop arresting someone then not cooperating with the DA at trial.

And of course the only way to make a compelling case is to actually investigate through impeachment. Impeachment isn't actually done until they take a vote, and they can even cancel the vote. But the initial impeachment investigations are required.
