I wonder what the NYC subway farebox recovery $ and % is, and how much they spend on policing for fare evasion (and related settlements for abuse)

Last I saw, they are losing money, before any lawsuits are taken into account, but it's mostly about punishing the poor, so it's worth the cost.

The MTA is run by the state so it would be literally impossible for NYC to directly benefit from this anyhow in terms of fate revenue. This is purely an expense for the city.

When police officers, with guns drawn, surrounded the home Eric Brown was showing to his friend, he thought there was a fugitive outside. But "they were here for us," he said he came to realize.

How much of a puss boy do you have to be to have 4 patrol cars and guns drawn over a potential squatter. I mean the whole issue is fucked but seriously what a bunch of limp dicked idiots.

The article also mentions that the LAPD have been instructed to ask everyone for their social security numbers and to insist that it is required by federal law (it's not). This seems to be a way to get around sanctuary city laws that prevent law enforcement from asking about immigration status.

To the surprise of no one, it seems that all this social media surveillance is being used almost exclusively for Black Lives Matter and other left leaning activist groups. No keywords (in a document a few years old) indicated they were looking at any right wing organizations or hashtags.

The article doesn't appear to mention what would happen to anyone who refused to provide that information, so that has me curious.

Noor's second-degree manslaughter conviction still stands in the July 15, 2017, slaying of of Justine Ruszczyk Damond.

Quote

The Minnesota Supreme Court on Wednesday reversed the third-degree murder conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor, who fatally shot a 911 caller four years ago.

Noor was also convicted of second-degree manslaughter in the death of Justine Ruszczyk Damond on July 15, 2017, and that verdict still stands.

The former officer will be re-sentenced for the manslaughter conviction alone, as opposed to the 12 1/2-year penalty handed down to him in 2019 for murder.

Noor is now looking at a sentence of between 41 months to 57 months for that lesser conviction, a Hennepin County Attorney’s Office spokeswoman said.
