I think with either case it's absolutely imperative that we eliminate our nuclear stockpile as soon as possible. There won't be a clear successor state a la the USSR and Russia, so we may end up with a few subnational nuclear states, or a totalitarian domestic nuclear state

@Emperor Diocletian II @CayceG and I will establish a triumvirate. Thus the nukes will be safe.

I think they're going to cover the rest up to 70% but I'm thinking this could have them payout even more.

Not only will they payout a LOT more without some type of cap in place, it’s going to be a nightmare to implement. Something like 25% of people in NJ who applied for UE still haven’t seen a cent, and there are a lot of people still having issues with the flat-rate $600 PUA... and that’s a fairly simple thing. Now they want to implement a rate that will vary for every person...? Lol

And then there’s the matter of the amount the federal government has to supplement changing DRASTICALLY on a state by state basis.

If the plan was $600 until the state could do the 70% thing that would be ok, not great, but instead they're gonna fuck over everyone by a new mandate with no time to implement it

Small nit-pick but isn't PUA specifically for for the self-employed and contractors? I don't think the $600 benefit is considered the PUA. I ask only because I had both a regular paying job and a commission job before the pandemic and I have been getting unemployment plus $600 from the regular-paying job, but I have yet to see a cent from the PUS General Fund that is says I am eligible for every week I certify. They were paying me the regular unemployment and the $600 from early on, but I had to wait until June 30th for someone from unemployment to call me about my commission job. They said I would be receiving payments the following week yet I still have not received anything!

No. PUA, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, is for people on regular UE - you get whatever your state UE is + the federal $600. PUC, Pandemic Unemployment Compensation, is for self-employed/contractors who do not qualify for regular UE. Don't worry, it's meant to be confusing as fuck. :p

But, seriously, you may have been better off doing one of the PPP loan for 1099s for your other job. You could've taken a loan for 3 months of your salary and as long as 70% of it went to paying yourself (lol) then you don't have to pay it back... No, really.

I think you're mistaken. Everyone has the self-employed assistance as PUA:

https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2020/06/nj-labor-dept-skipped-steps-to-pay-unemployment-benefits-faster-but-some-might-be-owed-more-money.html

https://www.dol.gov/coronavirus/unemployment-insurance

You may be eligible for unemployment benefits, depending on your personal circumstances and how your state chooses to implement the CARES Act. States are permitted to provide Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) to individuals who are self-employed, seeking part-time employment, or who otherwise would not qualify for regular unemployment compensation. To qualify for PUA benefits, you must not be eligible for regular unemployment benefits and be unemployed, partially unemployed, or unable or unavailable to work because of certain health or economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PUA program provides up to 39 weeks of benefits, which are available retroactively starting with weeks of unemployment beginning on or after January 27, 2020, and ending on or before December 31, 2020. The amount of benefits paid out will vary by state and are calculated based on the weekly benefit amounts (WBA) provided under a state’s unemployment insurance laws. Under the CARES Act, the WBA may be supplemented by the additional unemployment assistance provided under the Act.

What I guess is happening to me is that I can't receive the PUA while also receiving UI from my other job? I have no idea, to be honest.

Yea, I mixed up PUA and PUC. They’re both essentially the same, however; $600/week. One is just for 1099s, the other for W2s.

But, no, I don’t think you can receive both. Both programs work within each other and alongside regular UE.

Can't fucking wait for this ushering in the destruction of what's left of the social safety net.

A couple of months before the election is definitely an interesting time to test the theory that Americans would be willing to riot if they didn't have to worry about losing their jobs and thus their health insurance, by intentionally blowing up all the jobs.

Dems want 200 billion for housing and rent help, gop has 3 billion in their plan, lol. While asking for 1.75 billion to keep the fbi in its current location cause Trump doesn't want competition for his hotel, and 5 billion for the military which has more money than ever, it's insanity. All while trying to lower benefits meant to keep people home during a pandemic in a bill meant help with the pandemic.

Tens of millions out of work and relying on these measures and this isn't a fucking deal breaker

While it should continue at $600, $400-500 would likely be fine if that’s what he’s trying to say. ie: a continued weekly benefit is non-negotiable, but the amount is, or, replace it with monthly stimulus checks of $2k+.

My congressman since I was 3 years old. I voted against him in the primary. Sometimes I wonder how he represents a majority-minority PG County and then I look at the actual district.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/15/Maryland_US_Congressional_District_5_%28since_2013%29.tif/lossless-page1-1920px-Maryland_US_Congressional_District_5_%28since_2013%29.tif.png

I'm near Rosaryville. A lot of white people in Calvert (east of PG), southern Anne Arundel (north of Calvert), Charles (south of PG) and St Mary's.

Willing to bet a good chunk of minority votes are in that gerrymandered section around the beltway.

Don't worry guys the democrats will stop the rot in America. We just need to elect them to ever possible government position and watch as they continue to shit the bed. Completely incapable of handing the issues they face.

Crap I need a drink from just writing that. We are so fucked.

Not saying it'd be perfect or even enough but the the situation would be demonstrably different with no Republicans in charge.

It's not a good public message going into negotiations with those people

It’s typical Dems negotiating against themselves before the real negotiations begin.

Democrats: we really want 1, but, uh, let's compromise, how about 5, that seems about right?

Republicans: 10!

JC dems really need to learn how to play his games. Go run ads like during the shutdown saying that mitch is blocking them/people from getting help unless they make it so you can't sue if your employer forces you back and you get sick.

Seriously how fucking hard is it for these people to do anything.
