It's gotten to the point where my wife and I don't want to live here anymore. Our province has seen consistent brain drain for 50+ years, and has slowly turned from being the first place in North America with a socialist government to being the most backwards place in Canada.

You'll always have a home in the CA down south

Republican governors are really cool

As he announced plans to provide free rapid antigen tests to schools and childcare providers starting next week, Gov. Charlie Baker spoke of a strategic “pivot”: away from cost-intensive and centralized...

Just got notice from my son's school that this means the school will no longer do their pool testing, no longer do contact tracing, and no longer require students to quarantine when exposed to COVID. Instead they're asking parents to order tests every week and conduct them at home while also being honest about the results of those tests when reporting them back to school.

Super cool.

I love the idea that we'd have fewer COVID cases if we just tested less often.

My province did this. First they pivoted to making parents find and use RATs and report the cases voluntarily to the schools. Then they said schools had to compile those cases and send them to the government. Then they shut down the entire thing a week later, saying that testing would no longer be reported by or tracked by schools. Then they shut down provincial testing altogether. They released a press release yesterday called "Living With COVID" that effectively says we all are on our own. This is the playbook right-wing jurisdictions will all follow in the coming weeks.

At this point I really do think most of these measures are just farting in a tornado.

I recently found that my son's Jr. High has a public facing COVID stat tracker and that in this school year alone 18% of the students have had COVID.

My son's school has been pretty great about this. They were conducting pool testing on site once a week along with testing any kids that even seemed like they might be sick plus testing any kids that are out sick the day before coming in.  They've managed to not have any outbreaks throughout the school year, even if they are constantly turning students and staff away for testing positive. Sure, some 10-15% of the students and faculty have tested positive at this point, but they haven't been able to find any evidence of spread within the school. I mean, it takes more than testing to do that, sure. Like a magician came by the school for the kids and they performed outdoors instead of in the gym, but it all adds up. I mean, recently, they had gotten it down to a single case a week, where just a month ago it was multiple cases a day.

I think we all had Omicron like 2 weeks ago, when my oldest had a cold for a day or two and then my youngest and I did. All of our symptoms were so mild and passed so quickly... and getting a PCR test was pretty much impossible at the time and but the time I was able to get one lined up we all felt fine so we just didn't bother. We just all isolated for a week and didn't worry about it. We took several at home tests and all came up negative. We're all vaxed to the max. My wife who had COVID (probably Delta) in early December didn't get sick.

I know so many people who are getting sick now and having barely any symptoms at all.

Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and more have removed their catalogues from the streaming platform

He didn’t “side” with Joe Rogan. Per the article:

Quote

“This overreaction to Rogan, I think, is a mistake,” he added.

Stewart did point out that Rogan “has power because so many people listen to him”. (Rogan’s podcast draws an estimated 11 million listeners per episode.)

“I’m more worried about the algorithm of misinformation than the purveyor of misinformation,” he added. “Misinformation will always be out there, but if the algorithm drives people further and further down the rabbit hole, the algorithm is the amplifier and the catalyst of extremism.”

Stewart was never an activist, just just a funny man that people look up to because he comments on things that aren’t funny. He is always going to defend other funny men because he relates to them. He doesn’t see Rogan as the same media that he likes to criticize, but instead sees him as a kindred spirit

Anyways his response is weak. Is he saying blame the algorithm for making Rogan big? Sounds like he just doesn’t want to criticize an old friend.

I think Jason is refering to Thegreatone leaving. Though I thought he came back?

No he's referring to Remarkableriots who used to go by a different name with The Rock in it somewhere. I forget how he spelled it. It was weird.
