~*Official #COVID-19 Thread of Doom*~ Revenge of Omicron Prime

This is a really good interview with a doctor who tells it like it is:

Alberta is the worst-off province in Canada, and the doctor is stating facts about needing to shut down all medical services except for emergency, and soon needing to triage for who lives and who dies. The last half of the interview is the most dire. Basically says lockdown is the only answer now because the law of nature will win, regardless of how much you care about the economy.

It's been obvious since March or April that the only real choices have always been "lock down and destroy the economy" and "keep everything open but still destroy the economy anyhow from people dying en masse".

It's amazing how badly jason kenney has screwed that province over and it's showing up in his approval numbers.  I'm starting to wonder if the NDP might have a chance again next election or if the UCP pushes kenney out before the next election.

An opinion column by one of the doctors up at Renown in Reno that the President recently referred to as fake.

Quote

Dear President Trump,

In response to your retweet about the “fake” hospital in Nevada, let me assure you, there is nothing fabricated about it.

Here in Northern Nevada — just like much of the nation — we are suffering from an alarming spike in COVID-19. Fortunately, many people who get the disease are minimally ill or even asymptomatic. However, some are quite sick and require the hospital. Some of these will require the ICU. And as we are seeing, many are dying every day. In November alone, Washoe County lost 80 people to the virus.

After you have finished hitting golf balls, playing on your phone and watching TV, perhaps you and the others in the rear echelon will visit. Come see for yourself the despair and death. In the “fake” hospital, you will find plenty of real patients who cannot breathe or are too weak to care for themselves. Unlike you, they could not take a personal helicopter to a private hospital suite to get oxygen nor a bunch of fancy drugs unavailable to the rest of us. Unlike you, they are worried about affording the rent since they are not at work.

In addition to those real patients, you will also see plenty of real health care workers who are physically and emotionally exhausted dealing with this pandemic. And you might even realize that we are tired of coronavirus being portrayed as a prank or fairy tale by the politicians in D.C.

Get off your Twitter account and get back to work.

Gregory A. Juhl, MD

Emergency physician

Please don't eat in restaurants.

I've tried to explain this to a few friends who have a false sense of security eating at restaurants.  It's troublesome how plenty of responsible mask wearers cannot wrap their heads around why eating indoors with other members of the public is such a terrible idea right now.

Pallister is a doofus, but even conservative premiers like him in Canada (except Kenney, the king of doofuses) are imploring people to not visit each other for Christmas.

Restrictions is not a left/right wing issue (at least in Canada) -- both Legault and Ford have put in far more restrictive guidance for Christmas celebrations than Horgan has.

I would generally agree. I was more pointing out the contrast between Canada and the US, where it has become a left/right issue, unfortunately.
