No Time to Die (08 October 2021) - multiple reviews posted

Yeah, I love Bond and all that, but coming out of the pandemic (that's STILL HAPPENING) means I don't want to be in public for long, and I certainly don't want to sit in a theater for three and a half hours. That's an ENTIRE afternoon essentially.

Gonna catch this one at home.

Daniel Craig’s last outing as James Bond has plenty of action spectacle, but it can get mired in self-seriousness. Big surprise.

Imagine a James shaken, not stirred, by the idea of his own impermanence — and even, perish the thought, irrelevance. Could it be that 007's number is finally up in 'No Time to Die'?

Be advised: spoilers are out in the wild.

The 25th episode in the venerable franchise — and Daniel Craig’s last as 007 — finds its hero in a somber mood.

Half of the 25th James Bond movie, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, is zippy; the other half is dreary, as the franchise says a definitive adieu to Craig’s 007.

Daniel Craig's final James Bond adventure is a classic blend of fresh and familiar, and it arrives just as cinemas need it the most.

I love the Bond movies, and consider Casino Royale my favorite in the whole series.  It's fun to reflect on 15 years of having Daniel Craig playing James Bond, because it's long enough to attach certain eras of my life and memories to the different movies.  So it is touching in a way that No Time to Die is so focused on endings and goodbyes.  That said, what I've seen in previews and what I've read just makes this seem aggressively uninteresting, and my feeling is that we'll be forever robbed of Danny Boyle (or any filmmaker really) doing something legitimately compelling with this character and particular story.  Casino Royale set up expectations and possibilities for what this Bond could potentially deliver that the franchise custodians are simply too terrified to explore.

This isn't only a goodbye to Craig though.  I expect the franchise to be completely Marvel-fied moving forward, so I'll likely step off this train and hope that new fans find just as much enjoyment with the next era as I had with this one.

I've been kind of thinking of marathoning all the Bond movies over the next few weeks. I haven't seen most of the Roger Moore ones, which are apparently mostly terrible. Pretty sure I haven't seen License to Kill, either. And I haven't seen Spectre. And the only time I saw Quantum of Solace I was so high I think I imagined half of it.

I think it would be fun to watch them in order of worst>best. if you average the ranking between their average RT rating and percentage, this is the order (from worst to best)

A View to a Kill (1985)

The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)

Octopussy (1983)

The World is Not Enough (1999)

Moonraker (1979)

Die Another Day (2002)

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

Never Say Never Again (1983)

Quantum of Solace (2008)

Live and Let Die (1973)

Diamonds are Forever (1971)

Spectre (2015)

For Your Eyes Only (1981)

License to Kill (1989)

You Only Live Twice (1967)

The Living Daylights (1987)

GoldenEye (1995)

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

Thunderball (1965)

The Spy who Loved Me (1977)

No Time to Die (2021)

Dr. No (1962)

Casino Royale (2006)

Skyfall (2012)

From Russia with Love (1963)

Goldfinger (1964)

The movie is 2 hours and 45 min long. 20 min longer than Skyfall and 15 longer than Spectre. Considering it’s a finale that’s not that bad IMO. Also why are some of you spending 4 hours in a theater for a movie less than 3 hours long?

I never understand the pushback on long movies. If it’s paced well and entertaining then who cares. I’ve watched 3 hour movies that flew by and 90 min movies that made me wanna tear my hair out with boredom.

Spectre had no business being anywhere near as long as it was. Some of my favorite movies are long, but once you’re flirting with or above 2.5 hours it’s very often too much and poorly paced.

I can't speak for the others, but I like to get there early to watch the handful of movie trivia questions. After the second or third rotation of the same questions, I can get all the answers right and then I feel proud of myself.
