This is what, epiosde three or four? I love how there's consistently zero evidence of designing for safety in the Star Wars universe. I know stuff like long bridges with no guardrails is something you get throughout sci-fi but it's really fucking pervasive in Star Wars. I chalked that up to the Empire simply not giving a fuck or that Droids probably perform most of those functions so there's no need for safety measures. Chris-
As much as I dislike the prequels and RoS, it’s cool... Spoiler ...that the show is now bridging the two in terms of cloning tech. It makes me appreciate RoS a *little* more. I still think it’s barely above AotC as one of the worst films, but that detail at least makes some of its plot choices a bit more palatable. I have a different take: Spoiler The cloning thing is only in service of what was revealed at the end of the episode: The Dark Troopers. If you aren't familiar, Dark Troopers appeared in the Star Wars video game "Dark Forces," a Doom clone on DOS in the early days. The plot revolved around you chasing down clues and eventually dealing with a new genetically engineered super storm trooper in a powered exosuit called Dark Troopers. The most advanced phase of Dark Trooper included some force sensitivities to tap into the Dark Side. THAT is what Moff Gideon is doing, and that's what the genetics lab was for. And that's why they want the Child. I don't necessarily think this is meant to tie into the Snoke clones from TROS. People are making the link because they saw a body in a jar. That's it. I think it'll wind up being Dark Trooper stuff as opposed to the fledgling clone effort Palpatine used.

Listen to any interview with Filoni about Star Wars and his reverence for all of Lucas’ contributions, prequels included, is obvious. The Mandalorian being set at a time where he and Favreau can riff off Lucas material and Filoni’s own without really having to dabble in sequel stuff is smart of them and allows them to functionally ignore any non-Lucas canon. I’m genuinely curious if we’ll ever get any real teases of The First Order or anything like it eventually.

I think we already have with this previous episode. The post-RotJ novels describe how the remnants of the Empire fled into the Unknown Regions where they began to reconstitute as the First Order. The New Republic pilot said that they're investigating things happening in the Outer Rim which could be indicative that overall effort. I can't wait until next episode when it is revealed that a start-up company on Tatooine is designing a mega-transponder that could theoretically be used to call all the ships in the galaxy to a single planet, even if it's located in the unknown regions on a planet with lightning everywhere! Oh, and it's owned by the Darklighters and financed by the Calrissians. I do enjoy Mandalorian, but it's 100% going to become a fanservice show (I mean, it already is). Oh, and it's owned by the Darklighters and financed by the Calrissians. I do enjoy Mandalorian, but it's 100% going to become a fanservice show (I mean, it already is). This hints at something that I've seen going around since the last episode come out. With this discussion, and with the potential cloning experiments hinting at some connection to Palpatine. People are dreading Mandalorian making a connection to the sequel trilogy and it somewhat acting as a prequel to that. In other words, it explaining things that either didn't need explaining or we just don't want to be reminded of. To be sure, the sequel trilogy ended with a big, wet, rotten fart and plenty of us just don't want to have that revisited. And I don't really think that's the way the show is going. There may be mentions or hints at things that could develop, but I don't think the show's point is to draw that direct line. It's doing such a good job of building the post-empire world. But it's also not really being heavy handed or overt in pointing to the sequels directly. This is partially because that isn't the story it's telling. I think a lot of fans are dreading this happening, though, and that's the prediction they're projecting on the rest of the show. While I'm a bit wary of an overt link to the First Order or Palpatine's return, I'm content to wait and see. I'm very excited to see the rest of the season and the story it's telling as opposed to dreading the story people are worried it might tell (but has not so far). AbsolutSurgen
I can't imagine that somewhere in the Mandalorian, we don't end up tied into the origin of Snoke somehow. With the discussion of wanting to take blood from a donor with a high m-count (midichlorian), one would have to think this was related to the creation of Snoke and eventually to the clone that was the rebirth of the Emperor... Mercury33
The show is great. The problem is that Star Wars fans Inherently want to destroy everything they love. It’s in their nature. Because they build up everything to be so big snd so grand (something Star Wars NEVER was) in their head. That they then rip apart and destroy anything that doesn’t live up to the storylines in their head that they jerk off to in their basements. I fully expect them to take Mandolorian down this path as well.

IdeaOfEvil
If Ahsoka wasn't in this, then the episode was merely a decent one. It was a weird waste of Michael Beihn, and it was kind of an off-founded story of there being some small town in the middle of nowhere that's being oppressed by "the Empire" for what reason? But anyways... Because Ahsoka was there, it got a "hype-bump" that wasn't terrible. My only real quibble is that the lightsabers looked weird. Something was just off with how the blades were animated, how they did the whole "safe-Disney / no violence" fighting (droids can get cut, but not people), and how Dawson didn't even hold the sabers in the correct way that Ahsoka does in the animated shows. I guess maybe we have to assume she's doing the whole "I am not left handed" scenario from 'The Princess Bride' because Ahsoka would have just bodied that spear woman if Ahsoka was really trying?? Decent C-average episode, but not the franchises best by a long shot.

The magistrate seems to just ruling because she can. the bigger thing to me was Rosario Dawson didn’t move like Ashoka while fighting with her blades. I’m sure she did some training to prepare, but she clearly needed more. I almost wish they used her mo-cap actress that did her fight with Maul for the fighting. CayceG
The town is there clearly supporting a factory. Likewise, the planet has been used for resources in support of the Imperial fleet before, and now another unknown resource-hogging effort that the Magistrate was in charge of. Last episode, Bo Katan said it was a forest planet. The image of the planet as the Razorcrest approaches shows that there are scars in the planet where things are burning. Clearly, the land around the village is completely barren. In the background long shots, you can make out some industrial sectors and smoke stacks: Calodan | Wookieepedia | Fandom STARWARS.FANDOM.COM Calodan was a walled2 city on the forest planet Corvus. After Din Djarin helped Bo-Katan Kryze seize weapons from an Imperial cruiser, Kryze told him that the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano could be found in the city.1 Upon arrival, Djarin and his foundling were escorted by members of the Scout Guard, the Magistrate's brigade of faceless enforcers in the city led by the gunslinger Lang. All I said was that we got to see droids get cut but not the humans/humanoids, and it stuck out. I'm not looking for gore or excess violence here. But even the Jedi Outcast game animated bright orange saber slashes across the Storm Troopers chests when they got cut, and we didn't see anything happen to the soldiers at all. The blatant avoidance of reasonable Star Wars violence stuck out like a sore thumb.... You and johnny and Remarkable are just gonna have to accept that your blind love for Disney / blind hate for any reasonable criticisms against Star Wars are all your own issues, and no one else's outside of this forum.
