There are protections against political retaliation that respectable leaders abide by.

I'm not talking about retaliation, just new administration means new appointees, and since Trump hired a bunch of unfit goons and ghouls to so many different positions, Biden should have just cleaned house, and not, "well this guy's doing a good job, so we'll keep him for now. Wouldn't want to look too partisan, and upset our Republican colleagues", even though didn't Trump basically replace all of Obama's appointees, as well as ending a lot of Obama's programs (like the pandemic research team, which could have made 2020 very different if they were still active), which I'm not even sure of Biden has reinstated a lot of those programs yet.

Former President Donald Trump said Thursday he will "very, very seriously" consider full pardons for the rioters who breached the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, if he runs for reelection and wins.

More witness tampering.

Doing it live during this hearing will likely cause a ratings boost and/or more people to view it later and overall. This is a Trump-esq reality TV tactic.

They should have done it during a live hearing two months ago.

Lol that you think he’ll testify. This is to cause a tantrum from him.

He wouldn't have testified (and I doubt the committee even remotely expected him to do so), but at least the inevitable legal wrangling over the just-issued subpoena would've been in the public sphere for months leading up to the mid-terms.
