How worried about the election are you?

Recommended Posts

Honestly, I’m worried about peoples’ reactions to the election results more than the election itself. Worried enough that I get a rock in the pit of my stomach every time I remember it’s two days away. We’re about to find out just how unstable this country really is.

I’m VERY worried.

My white male privilege shields me from worrying excessively about this election.  I voted for Biden and want him to win.  Not because I necessarily support him or his policies, but because this is a referendum on Trump and his ineptitude.

I'm less worried about the election because I feel ultimately biden will win. I've been more worried about the depths the GOP will go to steal the election and what trump will do after he loses on the way out to further erode the government. I still don't think we've seen the worse that trump can do. Every time he does something that we feel he couldn't do worse, he ends up doing worse not long after. :|

This.

I mean in 4 years the Democrats decided on the least exciting candidate they could find, outside of having Clinton run again.  I still think Biden wins, but if he loses it's because the party can't figure out that going middle of the road does nothing to excite anyone. The other side would try and make Ronald Reagan look like a leftist socialist if he ran as a Dem, so you might as well actually run one at this point.

I don’t think our electoral system or the ~90 day transition of power are designed for bad actors, authoritarians, and a cult like following.

I don’t want to be unnecessarily bombastic, but I think the next few months will be like nothing our country has ever seen.

I’m not just worried. I’m scared.

Is the 90 days because it took like 30 to count everything, ages to notify everyone, then you gotta horse it over there and figure out what needs to go where, but you also have to horse in all your shit. Old system rules.

I am torn between worrying that a tantruming Trump will sabotage the Covid response due to losing and wanting to punish the country....and wondering if there is literally anything Trump could do on purpose that would make things worse than he is right now.

His attempts at it might actually be better than his actual response.

This is the reformed system. It was changed to Jan 20 from March 20. Jesus I can't even imagine an additional two months.

That is how it is used, if you don't think this, you're clearly not familiar with how this shit is being weaponized.

Nope, you're deliberately using a far right interpretation of the word to dismiss it.

First off, I'm not triggered. Secondly, the whole concept of white privilege is absolutely cancerous. He's assuming that he has systemically conferred dominance - I can assure you, he does not - through processes on an institutional level that makes him (his skin, his values, his ethics, his status, etc.) "normal", universal even. It's a shaming pejorative, one that indicates a lack of objectivity and disconnection with the harsher realities of the less fortunate. But he's using it in an attempt to be humble, that he has either made or taken part in some sort of moral transgression that needs to be addressed merely due to the circumstances surrounding his birth, most of which were entirely out of his control. It's original sin. It's depravity and a stain on one's soul that can only be removed through a life long process of spiritual work (anti-racism/activism).

So no, I'm not triggered. I'm sad actually, that people actually fall for this religious bullshit. But what do I know, I'm just a dumb Puerto Rican with the wrong ideas.

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

I don't know about you, but I actually take the time to try and read and understand this religious bullshit.

I'm sure @mclumber1 meant that regardless of the outcome of the election, he knows that as a white dude he will very likely be ok and won't feel the effects directly as much as people not in the dominant group such as immigrants, muslims, lgbtq, etc. Which isn't all the bullshit you extrapolated out of your ass and 100% aligned with that quote you very clearly don't understand.

I’m not even American and I’m still scared shitless of him winning again, and then the shit that happens if either is declared the winner. Either way Trump’s base I can see causing a little chaos in anger or in celebration. I’m just going to continue consuming a ton of weed until it make me feel happy and has squashed my worries mostly away. American Pie and LSD are my go to strains right now for that

The election being over isn’t going to solve much for us. I'm picturing more anger amongst the people. Election night is going to be a shit show no matter who wins. The accusations will fly from both sides about why the other came out on top. Another month or two of anger dominating the news as Covid cases continue to rise. Election night is just the next chapter in our bad situation. Personally I'm not more or less worried any more than I have been. I'm HOPING people remain calm and no one is senselessly killed.

Im worried in the sense that, theres so many hurdles to overcome before being rid of Trump...so many gates to pass until we are rid of him..

-Trump wins...

-Trump likely to lose but declares win prematurely...

-Trump loses but throws a shit fit using his Supreme Court...

-Trump loses and delays transfer of power....

-Also another Trump win means he gets to run his circus another 4 years without concerns of upsetting anyone due to a reelection hanging over his head.

the biggest concerns grow not from what Trump might do.. but from the experience that Americans and Democrats have done nothing when Trump has been out of line in the last 4 years.

Additionally the stink from the Trump swamp will hover over the nation for many years to come...

I'm probably seen as one of the more pessimistic on these boards, but that's not entirely the case.

I absolutely believe Trump will attempt some shenanigans, but I'm rather hopeful that Biden will win by enough to make even the very conservative courts not just give it to Trump in as a toss up. I believe some Republicans will absolutely try to invalidate a ton of votes after the fact, but I'm willing to bet they'd be more concerned with maintaining a majority in the Senate than keeping the White House.

That all said, my biggest worry are Trump's militia followers. I don't trust Trump to not to instigate violence in his name because the election was stolen from him by some cabal of cannibals. If Trump loses and nobody managed to keep his Facebook/Twitter account in check, he'll literally be calling for a Civil War. Were that to happen, it would come down to like Facebook acting in time to keep Trump in check and I don't at all trust them to.

My next biggest worry is the impending mass foreclosures. A lame duck Congress and White House will do nothing to help and everything to make things worse so that Biden will come into his term with the worst economy ever inherited by a president. It's going to suck. Millions will be homeless just so that Republicans can shore up their chances in 2022. This much is almost definitely going to happen if Trump loses. Even if Democrats win back the Senate, there's no way to undo the damage done with foreclosures between now and when everyone is sworn in.
