If it’s an employee could naughty dog take legal action?

I assume the employee would've signed an NDA or had something akin to that in their contract, so probably, but what that would actually entail, I dunno. Pay yer fuckin' employees when you rely on them to keep shit secret.

Even if it isn't an employee they can still sue. Companies are very careful about things like this. Even just marketing reveals that get leaked ahead of time can be upsetting, so if they can find out who leaked stuff and how, they can and will sue. Activision currently tried to with the Warzone leaks before it was officially revealed.

Not really sure how this is really sticking it to Naughty Dog though because I'm sure most people are going to avoid any spoilers, and are not going to actively seek them out.

With the game being pretty much finished, it was only a matter of time before stuff leaked out. An indefinitely delay doesn’t keep everyone silent. Spoilers and leaks happen all the time before a game releases that had no delay.

part of why I didn’t get the reason not to just release it digitally on time. And roll out a physical release as logistics allow them to distribute the discs.

100%, that person is royally fucked for a long while. Nobody is going to hire them after this.

Based on the gaming industry as a whole, I think this was their way of exiting what appears to be a shitty, garbage industry ran by cunts who employ an endless ocean of cowards and marks, eager to absolutely wreck their own personal lives to get a video game out and then get no bonus or raise and be fired immediately anyway. Sounds like a real shitshow, not that the rest of the world is drastically better; but at least elsewhere you can get dramatically better pay for your skillset working mostly normal hours.

I will agree that VG industry as a whole can be a shit show and people can make far better money and have more free time working outside the industry. Yet still this person will find it difficult for a while to get work even outside the industry over this. Also at the same time let's not ignore the people demanding their games for cheaper or free that has a negative impact on the industry to keep cost down.

Depends on how much more of ND's dirty laundry they want dragged across the internet.

Yeah no, it doesn't work that way. Sony/ND has the leverage here and just airing more dirty laundry will cost this person more if not possibly jail time depending what clauses he violated.

As another angry fuck, I endorse this message.

In fairness to gaming, this is not very different from a wide variety of other industries, no matter what the BS artists say.

How would this even be possible? Someone from the D1P Legal Team explain how someone could go to jail for violating an NDA that doesn't involve trade secrets.

D1P Legal Team... ASSEMBLE!

@Greatoneshere right?

@LazyPiranha sure?

@ByWatterson retired?

While I'm not a big fan of the first game, the insane negative reactions of "gamers" and "fans" to this leak has me thinking that maybe the story is actually incredible?

Never played TLOU, but wew boi does this game sound lame. Or at least the theme of TLOU2. Some of the events don't seem to be deserving the reaction they are getting, but one specifically deserves all of the hate, imo.

This isn't FF7 meltdown Bacon talking here either, but level-headed calm Bacon.

I'm not going to play this until the PS5 super duper edition or system boost patch or whatever is available so I'm debating if I should hold off so it's not spoiled for me or just go see what the big deal is. Probably should just go see what the problem is because I'm going to have to avoid the OT thread for the game when it comes out and will probably see spoilersanyway

Like I said, maybe I just don't know my shit but nothing like aliens coming from the sky for a big 'lol suck it fans' type shit is happening.

Please do separate between breaking NDA by disclosing information about the game and someone calling out that they should air the company's dirty laundry. Two things to point out that could get someone in worse situation than just violating their NDA, 1) gaining access to information that they were not directly looped into (This tends to happen often in large companies, not everything gets locked up perfectly), 2) Taking home or removing from work any company assets without written consent (even if they were just taking something to finish up at home) tends to fall on theft of company assets, 3) Sharing any company documents/assets/etc to outside parties (this includes emails and etc). Being on assembler games (but also a former game dev) I've seen people get probation and community service (as a lesser sentence) for theft of company assets.

The spoilers leak seems again like people mad over some dumb shit. I remember people were pissed at the ending of TLOU. Now some are mad at the plot of a game they haven’t played. I’m sure a lot of things people are mad at are either non issues or will work in the context of playing the game. Silly to doubt ND at this point.

I’m in the same boat. Seems like the only reason anyone would be upset (no actual spoilers, just thematic implications)...

Spoiler

...is because they are a dweeb who thinks games shouldn’t make any kind of ethical point about violence.

Nah I don't agree. I don't know the original's story so I don't know if this is some stupid departure within context so I wouldn't be so quick to write off anyone with criticisms. Maybe it's just a lame turn of events people dislike after being invested, no idea.

Fair.

I did reach out to dreammitchonner over email and he had the following to say:

Spoiler

It’s a shame I can’t pop in to let everyone know that, unfortunately, the Naughty Dog employee is likely to receive the death penalty.

So clearly he's doing well. :)

I'm sorry are we in the same timeline? Because people demanding games be cheaper or free has resulted in, uh... games being the same exact price except now there's a trillion monetization schemes and selling the actual game isn't even the main goal of half these companies anymore as they realized they could rope you in to keep giving them money for way less work on their end.

That said, keeping costs down? This is the same industry where making a lot of money is basically a huge failure. You bet the farm and break the bank on every title to become the next Call of Duty or you become an indie developer. (Obviously I'm exaggerating here.) If the industry focused in any way, shape or form on keeping costs down we'd still have a lot of developers we've lost over the last 15 years. Everyone's always aiming for a fucking mega success and the only way they think they can have a mega success is by spending every dollar they've ever made and crunching for 9 months with no breaks.

Bobby Kotick's worth $7 billion but xX_Sephiroth_Xx didn't think a low effort remaster of Warcraft 3 was worth $40 so we know who the real monster of this industry is!
