Political scandal rocks Canada as Trudeau buys donuts from local shop instead of Tim Hortons

A comparable dozen of donuts from a comparable local business (the local Tim Horton's franchise) is C$10.99 -- or about US$8.60.  He spent more than triple what it would have cost at Tim's.

Given that one of the big criticisms of Trudeau's Liberals is the high level of federal government spending (rightly or wrongly), this looks tone-deaf.

Anybody actually bothered by this is actively making the world a worse place.

lol you're ridiculous.  Did he spend hundreds of thousands of dollars? like c'mon.  There are so many examples of overspending/corruption etc in governments and you're concerned with $150 wow

How is Tim Horton's a comparable local business?

Either way, this doesn't seem too bad. I've spent about the same amount the donuts at a local donut shop in Boston. A dozen donuts from, say, Kane's will run you some $40. Completely worth it too. Their turtle donut is perfect.

I'll be in Montreal in a few weeks and I'm already planning on blowing my big American money on some snooty local donuts instead of Tim Shitons.

Good Doughnuts in Montreal do not exist sadly. You might be able to find some okish doughnuts from an italian bakery somewhere on Rue St Denis but other then that your options are Tims or Dunkin Doughnuts. =/

You're best off grabbing pastries as there are a few decent ones around the city. Also totally go to Dagwoods if you like subway (ie it's like subway meets an italian deli, so all meats are cut fresh).

That's like getting donuts from a good shop instead of Krispy Kreme.

Krispy Kreme is overrated as fuck

I used to live a couple miles from The Donut Man in Glendora, I stop by every time I visit my dad. Those are some damn good donuts.

When the hell was that pic taken? He’s in Africa now, and Ottawa is covered in snow. I love how there is no context to the photo other than him being in a motorized wheelchair. Quick search and it appears this Photo is from 2014 bring awareness to Canadian Paraplegic Association.

I don’t know why sitting in a wheelchair as he is there would be a bad thing.

Yeah this appears to be nothing but the right-wing trying to take an old picture out of context. It was for an event to promote paraplegics. He wasn't imitating someone, he was asked to sit.

Krispy Kreme sucks.  It just tastes like some super powered sweetener

Trudeau's Action Results In Huge Drop In Canadian Icon's Sales

Quote

Sales at Tim Hortons locations dropped 4.3 per cent in the final quarter of 2019, including a 4.6-per-cent drop in Canadian sales, parent company Restaurant Brands International (RBI) reported on Monday.

Analysts had expected a much milder 2.44-per-cent drop in comparable sales at the coffee chain, RBI’s biggest business by revenue.
