Reputator Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Hmmm, they decided to continue making millions of dollars on a franchise that made them millions of dollars. Interesting. Quote
sexy_shapiro Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I enjoyed 3 a lot but 4 needs to be the last one, or else this franchise is going to get redundant quick. Quote

They've said since season 1 ended that they have now planned for 5 seasons. I'm not a huge fan of the show either way. Quote
TheLeon Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I think it would be fun if they took a few years off, then came back with Stranger Things: The College Years. Quote
ort Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 It's already moved into silly territory. I enjoyed season 3 a lot (way more than 2) but they have yet to recapture the lightning in a bottle that was season 1. 1 Quote

Yeah I agree. I felt like the demogorgons rising up again in series 3 was almost to the point of being a tiresome, but there was enough good things going on to keep it enjoyable. I sort of wish 3 was the end though. Quote
silentbob Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Season 3 was a big improvement over S2, and am very happy to see a Season 4 announcement with probably a new setting as well. Wonder if they will attempt again to introduce more of 11’s side family in her attempt to get back to her normal self Quote
ort Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 They should have skipped season 2 altogether and just had season 3 be season 2. Season 2 was completely redundant. Quote

sexy_shapiro Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Season 3 was really solid but I don’t know if I want another season where the Russians have a sizable presence. They were a fun nod to political thriller movies, especially for a season released on Fourth of July. For future season I would prefer more supernatural stuff if possible. Quote
Greatoneshere Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 The fact that Hopper is back is such bullshit. Quote

Moa Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 It was incredibly predictable, but what annoys me is that the reveal could have been an emotionally satisfying moment in the show instead of being relegated to a throwaway teaser. I don't know, season three was definitely an improvement on season two but damn has this show just been chasing its tail the entire time. Quote

Yeah there were no explodey bits where Hopper was standing, and they made a concerted effort to show everyone else turn into giblets when they got hit with the energy. And then the epilogue part makes mention of an American in custody. 1 Quote

The letter scene is one of the most beautiful moments in the entire series and the way it is used in season three is completely undermined by Hop being right back in season 4. Quote

They already said he was alive in season 3. When the Russian guards are picking out who they were going to sacrifice to the monster they stop at a cell door and one of the guards says 'no not the american'. This can be no one but Hopper. I can understand not liking it. It is kinda like 'hey chewie is dead wink wink'. But if you watched through the epilogue you had to already know this. Quote
TwinIon Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Also, they really need him to do the press tour for the show, so they can't exactly keep it a secret. Hard to do late night interviews and pretend that you're not in this season. Quote

The decision itself to have Hop back for season 4 is the issue, not how they foreshadowed it. Quote

I am struggling to see much of a difference. Foreshadowing that your biggest star is still alive and having him present in the next season are kind of the same thing. Seems to me that decision was made when the epilogue aired. Quote

My post has literally nothing to do with when the decision was made. The only thing I said was that having Hop back in season 4 undermines the letter scene. They could have planned that back when they started putting together the overall arc of the series and it still undermines the letter scene. You are right that they are the same thing, we don’t disagree so I’m not sure why you are making this point Quote

I do think having him back will be important to the story they want to tell - but I agree that they sold it too hard that he was dead. Very Chewie like. Quote

Character deaths can be really effective, and Hop’s death and the letter scene were very emotionally powerful. The Chewie comparison is apt! It was one of the best moments in that film and then immediately it was “JK, a rando other ship got blowed up. LOL” Quote
Chris- Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 I’ve never understood the argument that moments can be made less impactful retroactively. Is 2019 you in the space time continuum suddenly aware that the letter scene ‘doesn’t matter’? No he is not. Quote
Rev Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 I always saw these as a kind of nostalgia-porn. What genre is this one nostalgia for? Quote
