Trump is not Teflon, the fact that Trump's ceiling is approximately 42% approval is proof. It's just how racism is priced in and no one is changing their minds about him or it

But nothing actually happens thanks to the stupid way our government is set up.  He said he's in charge of the Hatch Act and he's not really wrong, he called the emoluments clause phony and he's not really wrong on that front either.  His constant trips to his own businesses funnel money into his family coffers thanks to the fact the government has to pay market rate for everything.  Senate Republicans range from bootlicking to mild condemnations, but remain firmly in his corner because he's packing the courts and deregulating their constituents businesses.

He'll probably be re-elected because the Democrats are pretty split between the old timers and the modern progressives and the Republicans seem to love them some Trump.

All of the reporting I watched tonight somehow managed to acknowledge that this was a deliberate distraction coming from Trump AND call him out for doing it while keeping the The Bill Taylor Testimony front and center... in fact I'd say it backfired on him because it had a lot of Republicans who would normally defend him for the Taylor stuff have to distance themselves from his Lynching remarks... Oh and they also managed to call out the Dems who used the Lynching term in reference to Clinton's impeachment too... so

In addition to that, the lead story everywhere, including the ABC/CBS/NBC morning shows (easily the most watched morning shows, not Fox & Friends) is the testimony. And the headlines are direct: "U.S. Diplomat directly ties Trump to Ukraine Quid Pro Quo" "Explosive Testimony" "Ukraine aid linked to Trump's demands"

The story’s not appearing anywhere on conservative news outlets like the American Spectator and National Review—and the Republicans won’t change their tune until their media ecosystem can’t avoid acknowledging stuff like this.  The Dems need to jump on this, redirect everything to it and not deviate on messaging, otherwise they’re giving conservative media an out to focus on the latest stupid Tweetstorm coming out of Trump.

Yes, the highly influential American Spectator and its high name recognition plus the "Trump does as they say" National Review. Without them, there is no hope.

Conservative media will do whatever it wants (those two sites aren't focusing on his tweets either); you guys need to realize many of these people get their news from regular outlets as well because they have to at least type angry comments about bad Trump stories.

The Republican firewall only cracks when they begin to fear defending Trump means losing their jobs.  Their constituents see all the outlets you named as ‘fake news’ now; they’ll only begin to sweat when their own media ecosystem can’t credibly fail to report what’s going on.  That’s entirely possible, but the Dems need to make their message all about this smoking gun and nothing else.

They viewed it as fake news 10 years ago; it's just a different name they're using. In 2004, it was the dastardly "MSM" going nuts over the story about Bush and the military. In 2006, the "mainstream media" didn't even want us to "win" in Iraq. In 2009, Palin and far-right Republicans called it the "lamestream media." Right now, they're trying to deflect by talking about foreign policy or Syria and the Kurds. 47% video comes out about Romney? They come out and say that somehow that will win Romney the election. They do whatever they want

I disagree.  Sure, they'll try to report any bit of bad news in a way that minimizes damage to Trump, but if every time the Dems opened their mouths the only message that came out was "Bill Taylor", at some point it becomes impossible for them to write about the Democrats without mentioning the testimony.

And if the testimony holds up as the 'smoking gun', at some point that general awareness of it adds up to a Nixonian situation where middle-of-the-road conservatives finally start to see Trump as a liability. (I'll readily admit that there is a large contingent that will never abandon him and pin this all on a 'Deep State Conspiracy', but I think the center-right is open to pulling their support if the evidence is 'slam-dunk' enough)
