CitizenVectron
I bought Doom last year when I built a new PC, but I kind of forgot about it after only playing for an hour. I got back into it this week and it's really good! Just so much fun to run and gun without having your hand completely held through linear levels. The level design in this game is awesome! Paperclyp
Oh man it’s fantastic. For my money the best FPS campaign of all time.
Dodger
Now that's it's been X enhanced and I hear looks really good I should give it a go.
Commissar SFLUFAN
Best single-player FPS in over a decade.
Mr.Vic20
Yup, from a pure FPS campaign Doom is the once, resent, and hopefully future king! Its kinetic, forward moving, favoring the offensive style makes you feel like a carnage machine on roller skates!

HardAct
yup for sure, it's my favorite game to just jump into here and there and just kill shit. It's almost perfect and I can not wait for the next installment!
AlwaysDyingX
I was bored to tears by the second level.

How could you possibly enjoy Destiny and be bored by DOOM?!?
Bloodporne
I dislike it to a shocking degree. I've re-downloaded the PS4 twice by now actually, last time being only a few weeks ago out of boredom, and I still borderline hate this game. TheLeon
I need to get back into it. I enjoyed what I played (maybe half of it) but must have got distracted by other games.

So far of the 4 or 5 points I've gotten that I can put towards health, armour, or ammo, I've put all into ammo, haha. I just run around shooting things, I think the W key is held down about 90% of the time. The glory kills are actually fun, too, unlike many games. How long is the campaign? I'm about 4 hours in I think, and I don't want it to end!

Very different game, but more significant to me. Also Shadow Warrior 2 was pretty great for something in the same space as Doom 2016. misfit410
I've been a huge ID critic for about a decade or so, and DOOM turned that all around, it was everything I wanted and more.
CastlevaniaNut18
It was the only game I ever got a refund on Steam for. I just couldn't get into it.

Each have their merits, but if you took away everything but the core mechanics and then said which of these best exemplifies a classic shooter while making the experience modern and fresh, which would have your vote then? I adore the bioshock franchise, but I think of it as an ARPG more than straight forward FPS. Shadow Warrior 2 certainly does some fun things, but I think Doom has better level design and a tighter play loop. It does lack wang though! Yeah BI is different enough that I'm willing to exclude it from the consideration set. In terms of core shooting mechanics, Doom is better than it too. (But not a better game, IMO) Compared to SW2, it's honestly tough for me. I think Doom 2016 at its best is better than SW2, but the averages are pretty competitive. The next doom might widen that gap though. From the preview they showed, it looks like they're pushing it exactly along the directions where it excelled, and that's really exciting. CitizenVectron
I also bought Wolfenstein: The New Order this week and it's okay. It's capped at 60fps which sucks, but I'll try to complete it. Not nearly as fun gunplay as Doom.

Moa
From a gameplay perspective, it is by far my favorite single player shooter. I love how the game encourages and rewards an aggressive playstyle. My only wish for the game is that I wanted bigger fights. On Ultra Violence it felt like the enemies were well-balanced, I just wanted more of them by the end of the game.
Rodimus
I have been tempted to play this. I don't know if I should just play the regular version or the VFR version.
Moa
Play the real game first and VR if you're e into that.
ALIEN-gunner
DOOM 2016 is good but it can't hold my attention for so long. Yeah it's fun to shoot things is brutal and looks great but the gameplay is incredibly repetitive and simplistic.
AbsolutSurgen
I loved the gameplay - while my son was watching me play, I actually had him tell me to “keep moving, this isn’t Halo”. One of of the better FPS campaigns of recent years. I think Farcry 3/4 were better though.

Gunplay, feedback and worse, level design, in these games are bafflingly bad. Never understood the high praise, strip away the style and spectacle and you're left with some fairly sub-par gameplay. I somehow bought both out of sheer thirst for an FPS. I'm very interested in Ion Maiden right now, hopefully that delivers especially on the level design front. I mean with the New Colossus I wasn't a fan of the gunplay and perks, but I legitimately thought the gameplay for The New Order was good. Plus, it favored both stealth and all-out gun fights. atom631
DOOM '16 was great. I had an absolute blast playing through it. My only gripe maybe is that I feel like the campaign may have dragged on a little at the end. I wouldve been ok with 1-2 less chapters. Mercury33
I love Doom 16 but I haven’t been to keep my attention on it long enough to finish the campaign. It’s been my go to when I get tired of whatever big long game I’ve been playing lately. It’s the perfect chance of pace game.
cusideabelincoln
Choose the upgrade path for the Micro Missiles on the assault rifle as soon as you can. Those things are deadly even in late game. Also I hope you don't come across the same bug I did. I killed every demon in the level, but the music was still playing and the locked door wouldn't open up. Had to restart the level and kill everything again. I'm guessing one of the demons glitched through a wall or something, as the AI can be pretty dumb sometimes.
