Not sure what people were expecting if they played previous Rockstar games

I honestly don’t remember RDR 1 playing out with such crazy travel and such a slow pace. That’s one of 3 Open world games I found so fun I actually 100% it. The others being Black Flag and Witcher 3. I don’t think it’s too outrageous to say RDR2 does not meet expectations if you were expecting more of the same from RDR1

By the way, I came across a coach with four horses in front of it...one of those where the 'rider' sits elevated slightly above the horses. Can you actually mount and ride those in some way? I tried triangle from seemingly every angle and nothing happened. I even tried to release the horses all to see what happens.

Yeah, I tried too the first time I came across one.  Tried for a good two minutes.  Then just recently I did a quest where you have to ride one of those and thought "oh, so the first time was red dead being fuggin red dead.  But to honestly answer your question... I still don't know but I've rode one,lol

I'll be honest, I haven't really tried that bizarre cinematic feature since it was shown to me in Chapter 1. I will start doing so to see if it alleviates my frustration with said main missions but part of me wonders why implement something continuously in a game that you offer a 'cinematic' mode for aka an option to skip it because you know how tiresome it is.

By the way, do you have to place a marker with L3 first before being able to add a waypoint on the map to route your horse to?

If youre in a main story mission, you should just be able to switch to cinematic and tap A a few times and he will follow along the path the main story mission sets.

if youre not in a mission, set a waypoint so you have the red route on the map. get to the road (cant be out in a field or something) and switch to cinematic and start tapping x. he will follow the path with no additional input.

@Bacon since you finished it, how long did it actually take you? I feel like I’m barely into the game and it already says 25% done so unless that percentage slows down a lot I don’t see how this will be a 60 campaign.

Im about 28-29hrs in according to my xbox and I think im just about on chapter 4. cant see me having more than another mission or 2 after what just happened. I think my story progress is around 29-30% and overall progress is about 43%.

Spoiler

from what ive heard, there are 6 chapters and 2 epilogues.

if the remaining chapters are anywhere near the length of the 2 and 3 and you fly right through the rest of the game w/o doing any other side stuff--- this game is easily 60hrs and probably more like 100hrs

Thanks man. Maybe I was trying to set a Waypoint who-knows-where and/or on foot. I tried several times to hit X somewhere on the map just to see what Waypoint even does as I wasn't sure, and nothing happened each time.

I hate this statement. It is true in some regard, but I was never annoyed by what those R* games did. This has plenty of annoying shit that I dislike. Like, you could say the same thing about Dragon Age: Origins and DA2, or Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2. It is fucking different.

that was happening to me too in the beginning. i was just droppoing the red X and no path. it was annoying AF following it and then getting to a cliff or something and having to keep looking at the map and find the path around. then i figured out how to actually drop a waypoint that creates the path. take a look at the legend on the map, i think it clears it up.

I think I mentioned many pages back but the key difference is GTA is way more entertaining when traveling. GTA let’s me power slide thru red light at 90 mph while listening to some bat shit insane radio station as shoot at random pedestrians.  RDR2 is the polar opposite, it totally fits the game but it’s not surprising when people find it boring.

hmm, maybe what happened to me is your problem.

if you hit x (PS4) to set a waypoint on map and a lil red trail doesn't show up you have to change your HUD settings as the default (I believe) has it off.

Oh...maybe that's the issue? Will sift through the Options menu when I get home.

Sometimes, usually on wagons specifically and not when I’m on Arthur’s horse, the mission waypoints bug out and the cinematic view auto drive sends me to nowhere. Most of the time it works, but it breaks often enough that I have to babysit it.

So.  I just got to chapter 5 last night, so I'm a fair bit along.  From my point of view, just like with every fucking game in existence, this game isn't perfect.  Nonetheless, it is pretty fucking amazing, as it's arguably the finest open world game made to date.

Now as to the copious amounts of complaints in this thread with all of the "problems" with this game, I almost want to say "get guud". :p

Firstly, if something isn't working in the game as designed, as in something not activating, then that's different and that definitely sucks.  I personally haven't encountered very many of these situations at all.  A few, but nothing major.

As to the control, I just don't see what everyone's bitching about.  I was awkward as fuck when I first started playing this and got better the more I played it.  Simple.  Problem with not having the weapons that you like in your loadout?  Check them before you leave your horse.  It's not exactly a hard exercise to remember.  Does it take a second to open drawers and shut them?  Sure, but really, who cares?  It would be nice to just tap the button, but that's life.

In all my time with this game so far, it has been immensely enjoyable, immersive and yes, it has that Rockstar flavor that you can certainly recognize from previous games.  It's obviously not going to be for everyone, but to say that it isn't fun or it sucks?  Well, that just sounds stupid.

To each his/her own I guess, but I think there's a whole lot of exaggeration going on up in here.

This isn't a matter of skill. It is noting like Dark Souls that almost purely relies on the player mastering the mechanics. RDR2 is ridiculously easy from start to finish.

That literally shouldn't be an issue. And this isn't even true. I have had weapons equipped but when I got off my horse they were put back on. It isn't just check, it is check every time and even twice. You can like it, sure, but it is still an inconvenience. Not only that but the game will force weapons on me all the time. Specifically the bolt action rifle. I always got pump shotgun and repeater, but the game has often taken one of them away to give me the bolt action. This isn't counting the missions where you HAVE to use a scoped gun. My bolt action isn't even scoped as I never use it. Just give me a goddamn weapon wheel.

I do. It isn't just drawers. It is that plus everything else. And it isn't life. It is a video game.

Some people like black licorice. I sure as fuck don't. It is awful. Not and exaggeration. You can think what you'd like but you're wrong.

RDR2 doesn't suck, but it sure doesn't try to be fun nor does it bring a challenge. I am fine with a game lacking fun if it is a challenge. I am fine with a game lacking a challenge if it is fun. I'd prefer it be both, but at least one or the other. This game isn't either. At least there are many cool moments, IMO, and one of the best main characters, and easily the best R* character. I said the game was a 7/10 a bit ago, and that is still what it is to me. irrelevant, but that is the same score I gave to BOTW another well reviewed title that did many things I didn't like.

Seems like any dude I run into on twitter who self described “gamer” is a MAGA / toxic masculine douche.

And yet they wonder why they can't get laid.  "I don't get it.  I hate women, belittle them any chance I get and still I can't find a girlfriend."  The stupid will inherit the earth

it's not that they can't get girls... they just can't get the ones they think they deserve. There's plenty of women out here that are just looking for a nice dude to hang with and treat them decently... but most of these turds think that they should be dating supermodels even though they themselves look like piles of cheetos, greese  and barber shop hair.

Because there is no reason for it all.Imagine if one of the streaming sites decided that to FF, RW, or Pause a movie you would have to enter a 5 digit number on your remote. Outside a of a few most people would not excuse it. Its a poor choice that only dampens the experience, combined with a UI that should be taught in school as what not to do.

This unlike the loadout issue actually serves a purpose even if I dont likeit, all though you shouldnt have to choose each item individually, imo it takes the mechanic and draws it out into the absurd.

I hope you don’t identify as a MAGA person as well. I thought you were joking with your reply.

I mean, I have been a gamer for like all of my life. I skipped school have staying up all night to platinum DK jungle beat, skipped school any Tuesday a game I wanted came out and went to midnight launches with my friends, and I got picked up from school early to beat Halo 1. Of fucking course I am a gamer. Nothing wrong with being a gamer. I mean, I don't play as many games as I use to, but still. Do I support trump? No. I don't even regularly use twitter except to follow Twitch Streamers. The Friends I have now were the same people I'd go to midnight launches with. We all played games all time. WoW, Gears, CoD, Halo, BF, Castle Crashers. I mean, I am on a gaming forum. I started out on IGN cuz of RE4.

I mean, don't normally go around saying I'm a gamer to any random person. But if I was asked I'd say yeah. That and reading are my only hobbies. Nothing wrong with being a gamer. It just means you play video games(not mobile) a good amount.

I was being cheeky.  I didn't mean to suggest that RDR2 was a game of incredible skill.  I've just found that once I played it for awhile, I adapted to the game and there weren't any issues.  Certainly not anything that would stand out or detract from my enjoyment.

That literally shouldn't be an issue. And this isn't even true. I have had weapons equipped but when I got off my horse they were put back on. I've had this happen a few times.  Most of the time, if I get off my horse, check the wheel and equip what I want to equip, there are no issues.  I've had it swap my revolver out for the volcanic pistol a few times.

I do. It isn't just drawers. It is that plus everything else. And it isn't life. It is a video game.

Well, whether you agree or not, I think Rockstar made the decision to have this be a more serious game.  Sure, there are comedic moments of course, but this isn't GTA chaos in the old west.  Basically, I'm just saying that pretty much every game that I've played has had things that would have worked better or would have been nice if they were different.  It would have to be some kind of atrocious for it to come even close to ruining my enjoyment of the game, and RDR2 isn't that game.  Not even close.

Some people like black licorice. I sure as fuck don't. It is awful. Not and exaggeration. You can think what you'd like but you're wrong.

About black licorice? :p I can take it or leave it.
