I’m in Chapter 4 now and have an assumption about where this is headed / what the endgame will be. Hrm.

Spoilers involving speculation about the ending based on what’s happened through what I’d guess is 1/2 of Chapter 4 and involving Red Dead 1.

Spoiler

Arthur’s cough isn’t going away. Given the time period I’m guessing he has TB. Assuming that’s right, and accounting for where Red Dead 1 started and how it ended... Arthur helps John break away from the gang somehow and dies doing it. I’m also gonna guess that John is going to be RDR2’s Jack equivalent and that you’ll get to play as John for the endgame.

There’s also almost certainly someone leaking info about the gang to the law. None of the “returning” characters from RDR seem likely? So maybe Pearson? Micah seems too obvious.  I’m not sure.

Also unrelated to the plot... has any game had better looking fog / humidity? Man it’s pretty going through the bayou as the sun is rising.

I’m sure he is. It happens in story cutscenes. It doesn’t happen in all or even most of them, but if you haven’t caught it you’ve definitely missed it. It’s persistent.

I think the lighting in general for this game might be the best I've ever seen. The physical layer reactions are top tier, but it's the volumetric stuff that impresses the most.

Yeah, it’s really impressive. The open vistas are realistic and very pretty, but the rain, mud, swamps, fog, and humidity are incredibly well crafted. I can’t thibk of a more eloquent way to say it but the fog looks and behaves like fog? I have to slow down my horse in it to make sure I don’t run over people and obstacles up close, but at a distance the light will let bigger obstacles and shadows peek through.

All terrific games. I can't post my appreciation for them? Lol, stfu. You gush over Starlink one night then stop playing it the day after. You're a hater, brotha.

I’m still playing through StarLink.  I never gushed over it. That’s your bit.

So Im in chapter 4 and I decided to jump on for a little before the election coverage starts... thought I would go do a few story missions......NOOOPPPPPE

Wound up going fishing for the legendary sturgeon. that was so much fun, I decided I wanted to fish for another legendary fish. Then while Im over there noticed a spot that looked familiar on a treasure map. Wound up following that hunt for a while when I came across yet another area that looked familiar from a different treasure map. Then I came across a legendary animal. Then I was on my way to another step of the first treasure map and come across a gang hideout. Get in a huge fight and loot their camp. Then I come across a mutilated body tied to a rock with a note next to it. starts a new mystery to solve. proved too difficult so i continue to the next step of my first treasure map. find that treasure and complete the hunt (my first completed treasure map). riding out of the mountains, get chased by bandits...hightail it to the closest train station and hitch a ride into Saint Denis. unload my spoils to the trapper and decide to hit the saloon to celebrate.

This game man....

I keep reading the claim that RDR2’s excessively long animations add to the immersion, but when it comes to the loot body animation I couldn’t disagree more.

Waiting for Aurthor to align himself with a corpse, then perform his TSA style patdown feels incredibly out of place. There should be a whole lot more urgency to the action when at any time a witness may spot you or the law men could show up.

Where are you in the game?

You just have to be near the body and the animation is less than 2 seconds. He grabs their torso and picks something up, and it’s over.

I wonder if earlier in the game they pad it out?

Like I just did it in a whole field of bodies and running from body to body + the animation looks like he has urgency.

Something that annoys me that seems to borrow finding cars in GTA - animals.  No problem finding turkeys or deer...finding a raccoon or badger?  I'm taking longer to find them than it took to track down and kill 5 legendary animals in probably the same amount of time in areas that Arthur marked the map after seeing the two.

@Bloodporne so cinematic doesn't auto run but you can at least set waypoint like someone mentioned and let it go.

Actually it does, it's just a tad convoluted. First you have to be on the red GPS path, then get your horse to the speed you want to travel at, hold that speed by holding down X and WHILE holding down X, also hold down the view button/pad on PS4. A 'Cinematic' gauge will fill up in the bottom right and don't let go of X until the game shifts to autopilot.

I've used it quite a bit by now and it works fine after getting the hang of it. Problem is, you easily run into others and/or can get ambushed, so no putting down the controller.

Also, I agree with the lighting comments, it's almost ridiculously pretty at times. I'm certainly no graphics ho but this game really has outrageous graphics and art design.

cinematiic 100% makes you auto-run so long as you have a waypoint set and youre on the main path.

Most of the time but for sure not 100%. My horse will stop, it’ll go to a phantom waypoint, it’ll get tripped up and run in circles near forks in the road, etc. It does not consistently work.

seems to work consistently enough for me. my only issue is actually getting up to speed, staying on the path, selecting cinematic mode, holding it down until it kicks in...all at the same time. many times ill veer off the path and get screwed up. but once engaged, it works well for me.  I did have one weird instance during a story mission where i was in a carriage and didnt feel like piloting, so i switched to cinematic, and they went left instead of right at a fork and wound up so fucking far away from the objective. lol. i wasnt paying attention and i noticed the yellow line was pointing in the opposite direction. i shouldve just let them go and see where they finally ended up.

I went to take a piss during a long ride, so i engaged cinematic and i ran to the bathroom. as soon as i started pissing i hear guns going off. so i pinched it off and ran back to see what the commotion was. i was happy to see that my horse was outrunning the bandits and pulling ahead of them. ran back to finish my piss and returned to my game with arthur at my destination.

Wait...... you stopped pissing during pissing? Doesn’t that hurt? Also it can lead to UTI’s.

Yeah that’s all happened to me. 75% of the time it works 100% of the time.

whenver ive tried to do this, all the bodies are gone.

so i loot as many as i can before the area turns red. then i hightail it outta there.

During the mission where you save Sean and after you clear the camp - I tried looting everyone there but not too long after I needed to leave the area because of the rest of the gang returning.  What I didn't expect to see is the gang actually take their fallen comrades away on their horse taking the loot with them

The side missions and general side content are a lot of fun and really well done, it definitely won me over to the game in general. I'm officially addicted yet am barely advancing the actual main quest.

I finished the four gunslingers off yesterday and especially Flaco was a really cool and atmospheric set-up.

Some of the mind-boggling decisions and weird janky shit has gladly just kind of become routine by now and I can deal with it. I love The Evil Within, so yeah.

Btw, at this pace I'll be playing this fucking game until Sekiro comes out. I did spend what seems to be like 6 months on MGSV so it's possible.

Seriously? That's some cool shit. I was able to loot the whole camp after that mission.

I still have to hold X when following a NPC on a mission though.  I wish they just made it where they followed you like most games.

No. I just saved after Flaco last night since he was the last and I haven't returned to the saloon yet to check actually. I had run out of time to play and had to quit before my girl ripped my head off.

ok I got a good one...

where do you check missions??? lol

I had no idea about this either and have absolutely no clue where to check...

I feel like I need a fucking instructions tome to engage with all its systems sometimes, so I ignore most of them and just go have my fun.
