Yeah that's strange, because I've had the mission auto fail on me for weird positioning of a carriage that, if you couldn't back up, would be a mission ender. Did they forget they implemented that too? :p

lol i got stuck and thought I tried all buttons - ended up killing one of the horses to get a retry checkpoint

The game has told me about hair tonic no fewer than 5 times but did it tell me how to back up so I wouldn't fail a mission? LOLNO 5/5 GOTY

I've had similar issues as others with controls but I'm addicted to the game. Not sure how many times I said I'd quit but keep going back

I've barely done anything in chapter 3 but spent a lot of time hunting and running into strangers / doing side missions. Part of the reason is because of a bug...

Sadie, Jack, Abigail and Bill are all missing from camp for me. It's a confirmed bug and it's pretty annoying enough to me that I don't really want to continue the main story till its addressed. I also ran into another bug where I can't hunt the legendary buck because of the "too much activity message" even though I tried so many things at this point to address that.

I will say though - controls are not that much different than Rockstar games.  I tried playing V again to get the freebies for RDR2 and I didn't remember how bad the driving was and the aiming really isn't much different

Like mid mission? Or you do something then get on your horse and when you get off it resets your load out?

Both.

Start mission. Before I get on my horse I pick my loadout and load it with specific ammo. Arrive at destination and get off horse. Different weapons are equipped on Arthur with basic ammo.

Does it do this consistently? Of course not. Sometimes my choices stick. Sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they change mid mission. Sometimes they change after dialogue or a cutscene.

I was correct about the waypoint. You dumb af. You quit on every game you buy. This is the norm. You like to shoot things like an 13yr old adhd child. Just drink and shoot children in cod. Deeez nutzzz!

Final review. Game sux.

No no no, you switched teams once. You’re not allowed back. You play the game and you love it now.

Naw man. I tried I really did. Even re-started. Bottom line is the game isn’t fun. I have zero fun doing all that available shit.  Lol. I’m tapping out.

@Kal-El814 @johnny I’ve got another tip for you...

go visit a gunsmith. He has an option that allows you to customize your loadout. You can chose to always sling your shotgun or something across your back.

Then when you get off your horse, it’ll be there.

I’ve done that a lot. It doesn’t stick.

With all the control option tweaks, I'm enjoying this game a lot more than on my first attempt.

That being said, the ultra-restrictive main mission designs are already grating. 50% riding (aka holding X), 40% cutscenes/slow walking/blabbering, 9% tutorial and 1% cool gameplay...every damn time.

I'm really digging the world, murdering people randomly and some side quests but I can't believe how much the main story self-loathes about being a video game instead of a movie. I get that I'm interrupting your Oscar worthy Western with my irritating desire to actually play this thing, Rockstar, but alas, you made a game so yeah, fuck you you pompous dicks.

I've been avoiding main stories and just hunting, exploring and gunning down strangers and helping people on the road sides. The game does shine during those moments for me.

Overall, I find its systems and mechanics really nebulous, laborious and messy when you're not doing simple stuff as I described. There's always some arbitrary reason for the game to suddenly switch logic, deciding to take control away from you without warning or visual cue, not register the next story/cutscene beat et cetera. My last open world game was MGSV and while I by no means would ever compare the two overall, the freedom it allowed me in mission approach is hard to ignore and revert back to this type of 'stepped 2 feet off the path, mission failed' cinematic thing.

I've never played a game I loved and hated so much within a 30 minute span. It really goes from a 10/10 to like a fucking 5/10 and back again in an hour's time for me. Granted, I'm only near the end of Mission 2, but how long should I have to wait? But dude, you haven't played 50 hours yet, lulz casul.

I'm in chapter 4, maybe toward the end of the chapter. It won't stop being that way.

Goddamnit.

And regarding reviews, I can see why unfortunately. Every time the game does something completely obnoxious, I try to write it off because of its obviously fantastic detail and atmosphere and omg look at that sky box. It has perfected style over substance to a degree that actually manages to sometimes fool even me into a sense of satisfaction until my brain re-engages and realizes I've done nothing but hold X for 15 minutes. And when I say 'even me' I mean that because I usually am 100% gameplay-first. It's like dating that really hot girl you don't want to admit has the IQ of a toaster.

It's a highly impressive achievement yet it often feels more like a self-indulgent showboat than a good video game to me. There could've been a truly amazing game here but it seems all polishing went into superficial aspects instead of its core mechanics and that's a tragedy, seriously. It's...so fucking close to brilliant sometimes but then it rips control away from me for the 4th time in one mission and I want to punt my PS4.

By the way, I came across a coach with four horses in front of it...one of those where the 'rider' sits elevated slightly above the horses. Can you actually mount and ride those in some way? I tried triangle from seemingly every angle and nothing happened. I even tried to release the horses all to see what happens.

When you switch to cinematic, does it "hold X" for you automatically?  I will admit holding X for so long is a bad experience.

I'll be honest, I haven't really tried that bizarre cinematic feature since it was shown to me in Chapter 1. I will start doing so to see if it alleviates my frustration with said main missions but part of me wonders why implement something continuously in a game that you offer a 'cinematic' mode for aka an option to skip it because you know how tiresome it is.

By the way, do you have to place a marker with L3 first before being able to add a waypoint on the map to route your horse to?

@Bacon since you finished it, how long did it actually take you? I feel like I’m barely into the game and it already says 25% done so unless that percentage slows down a lot I don’t see how this will be a 60 campaign.

no clue, but spoilers I can't talk about so yeah.

I can't seem to find a time played.

I've only tried it a couple times myself while in ch1 so i can't say I know as well lol

The thing I didn't like about it is the audio for the dialogue cuts in and out based on distance from the camera which I thought it was an odd thing to do, so I never went back.

Perfect. I don't actively listen after several minutes of aimless banter anymore anyway.

Have you played other rockstar games? Because you just described GTA as well with differences really down to mode of transportation and setting

Not sure what people were expecting if they played previous Rockstar games
