Cops' first priority that is drilled into them is to get home safe. That's it. Once people understand that and dispel with the myth that they're fucking superheroes who will sacrifice themselves for the public good the better off we'll be as a society.

To serve and protect not to serve and go home! :p

According to SCOTUS police have no duty to protect and serve. They could literally watch you get murdered and just walk away.

THEN WHAT ARE YOU FOR!!?

Police in this nation have always existed to protect the assets of the wealthy. The only item they've added to their list of responsibilities is gathering wealth for themselves and they do they mainly through tickets and asset forfeitures.

The fire department was there too. They could have gotten the keys out of the Knox box without ever dealing with a staff member. The level of failure here is staggering.

Dear press, make sure to do your ***king job and make a big deal out of this. This shit needs to be known far and wide and not get buried by COPS/NRA/GOP for how much of a fuck up this was.

Police aren't obligated to put their lives on the line, even if they receive the training and are paid a premium, but we expect teachers that won't receive the training and not get paid the premium to put their lives on the line? All the while being liable for anything that happens with the gun they get assigned even while we give police blanket immunity?

It's fucking infuriating.

Cops are cowards. Teachers are the ones who time and again do everything in their power to protect their students. You saw it here, you saw it at Virginia tech where a ducking holocaust survivor did what was needed to protect his students and probably more elsewhere

What gets lost in all of this shit (which given the circumstances is completely understandable), is that behaving like this make the jobs of every other cop that much more difficult by generating contempt for the entire fucking profession.

contempt is the least of what cops deserve

I rag on teachers all the time in my job because obviously you always like to rag on the users you support...but I have no doubt that in a shooting situation (or any emergency) they would act more heroically than police. In an emergency situation in a school, this is the order I would expect staff to act with bravery to save children:

  1. Teachers
  2. Support staff
  3. EMTs
  4. Police/Firefighters

It wasn’t the MOS, it was the piece after urging fans to call their state reps to demand new gun laws.

At least in areas where "order" is enforced by organized criminal organizations, you genuinely do get the protection that you pay for.

With American "law enforcement" that is funded through taxation, you get:

- little or no protection, ESPECIALLY if you're a minority or poor (and Allah help you if you're both!)

- crimes aren't actually solved (absolutely laughable clearance rates)

- cops who are criminals, not acting like criminals, but actually ARE criminals (not that there's really a difference)
