Places that rely on migrant labor for agriculture are often GOP districts anyways.  Wouldn't this end up hurting the Republicans?

I would guess it would also affect California quite a bit, and maybe just larger centres in general, such as NY. That being said...I could also see him creating designated "zones" of problem where this would take affect, and not others.

Yeah that's the thing: they're absolutely going to fuck up immigration status.

They fuck up everything else! And fucking it up does two things: makes whiter/non-immigrant states seem to have higher populations for house Apportionment, and will also inflate the number of "illegals" which plays to their base

Why do you think that? I don't have any strong feelings on her either way, but I am curious.

It's bad enough that Freeland is pulling the strings right now. A Freeland led government would be even worse for marching in lockstep with American foreign policy. At least with Trudeau in power I can hope that he wouldn't send troops into some disastrous war in the future. People said that if Harper was PM in 2003 that Canadians would be in Iraq. Well if Freeland ends up leading the LPC it won't matter what party is in charge in the future, we'll back up the Americans in whatever military adventurism they wish to undertake.

Trump asked US ambassador to the UK to request the British Open be held at a Trump resort in Scotland, New York Times reports

This probably deserves it's own thread... but this alone is the sort of thing that would have been considered impeachable in the past.

David Roth said it best: their fixation on mundane cultural battles is perhaps their most grotesque feature.

This is absolutely one of those things that did not start with Trump, but that he has dumbed down, repackaged, and supercharged to be Trump Brand Culture War with no subtlety and twice the pettiness. The mask issue is an even more heinous example.

Like everything else, it's like Trump heard the definition of what a culture war, wedge issue was in the last 5 minutes of a meeting he had mostly ignored and said, "got it!".

It is yet another parody come to life in the age of Trump....

"Why is Trump so hellbent on defending racist traitors who attacks our country yet he won't say a word about the bounties his Russian master put on the heads on our troops in Afghanistan. No president has ever sold out our troops the way this one does."

During his 2016 campaign, Trump said “I’m not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican and I’m not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid.” Congress passed the cuts, and just before Trump signed it, he suffered a heart attack and died. Promise Kept.

Some are lobbying against Harris for VP behind the scenes and in front of the scenes.

First, what other camps for other VP candidates think of her chances:

And people in three other competing camps privately said that while their candidates have a shot for VP, Harris is more likely to get the nod.

Some of the objections:

When former Sen. Chris Dodd, a member of Joe Biden’s vice presidential search committee, recently asked Kamala Harris about her ambush on Biden in the first Democratic debate, Dodd was stunned by her response.

“She laughed and said, ‘that’s politics.’ She had no remorse,” Dodd told a longtime Biden supporter and donor, who relayed the exchange to POLITICO on condition of anonymity.

...

“Dodd felt it was a gimmick, that it was cheap,” the donor said. The person added that Dodd’s concerns about Harris were so deep that he's helped elevate California Rep. Karen Bass during the vetting process, urging Biden to pick her because “she’s a loyal No. 2. And that’s what Biden really wants.”

Several California Democrats who spoke to Biden's vetting team have shared glowing reviews of Bass, the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus and a former state Assembly speaker. Others touted Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who earned a Purple Heart in combat, and former national security adviser Susan Rice, whom they came to know though her connections to Stanford University in the Bay Area.

“I don’t think Kamala Harris has it in the bag,” said former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), reacting to the dozens of Democrats who believe Harris is the likely pick. Reid, who speaks frequently with Dodd, met with Harris recently and said he thinks highly of her.

Quote

While some of Harris' detractors say they’re still concerned about her record as California attorney general, others who interacted with her earlier in her career told the Biden team they're wary of how she would conduct herself as a No. 2.

Still, others have raised concerns about Harris’ presidential campaign itself, which launched with great promise before 22,000 people, but steadily lost ground. Harris dropped out a month before the Iowa caucuses.

Colbert recently challenged Harris on her comments from the debate regarding Biden. She gave the same non-answers described in what you posted and when Colbert pressed again she changed the subject.
