The Matrix Resurrections - the first critic "reactions" are in

Recommended Posts

I love the first film and have a real soft spot for Reloaded, but I'm not really interested in a fourth film. Honestly, I'd probably prefer a reboot to a sequel.

Still, having Lana Wachowski on board gives me some hope, and now is a good time for a blockbuster that re-examines our relationship with technology.

It all went downhill when Col. Sanders showed up to talk about jr. college math equations in the second one.

This kills me every time someone complains about this section of the movie.

Its real simple , once Neo finishes the 11 herbs and spices , the 2 piece and biscuit is complete and it re enters the program thus starting the Matrix over.

As a fan of the entire franchise (yes, even Reloaded and Revolutions), this is awesome news. There's a lot you could do with a Matrix 4, and having the original cast back opens up even more possibilities. Lana Wachowski coming back was key and having that seals the deal. Very much looking forward to this.

Given where Lana Wachowski is at this point in her career, unless the studio hamstrings her completely (unlikely, given she's writer, director, and producer on this), I would not expect a conventional sequel (or midquel, or prequel) no matter what we get.

Remember also that the third film ended on a very tenuous note of ambivalent, peaceful co-existence between humans and machines (which leaves a lot open for a sequel) and that the current Neo was the 7th iteration/version of Neo, and there's no reason previous versions (if it's a prequel) couldn't have looked exactly the same as Keanu Reeves (ala Fei Fong Wong and Elly in Xenogears). Or there could be digital copies of the characters that still exist in the Matrix, etc. etc. A lot of different possibilities.

Edit: I originally posted this in the duplicate thread, which should get locked/deleted.

Even if you didn't like Reloaded or Revolutions, The Matrix comics (two volumes) and The Animatrix were both really good.

The only comics I've ever read somehow was The Preacher. I need to venture into that territory one day actually. Seems almost like ignoring film as a whole or something...

I agree. It's not like she's been playing it safe since The Matrix ended. Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending, Sense8. At worst her work is still crazy, exciting, and wildly ambitious. At it's best, it's unlike anything else out there.

Yeah, exactly. I love Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas, enjoyed Sense8 (though imperfect it was) and Jupiter Ascending was unique and pretty but empty, but hey, everyone has a misfire.

Hopefully this new one stays away from the rave lsd rave dances and lame mech fights.

My thoughts exactly. I'm pumped for a 4th movie and very curious where they're going with the story. As @Keyser_Soze mentioned, I'm also excited to see what they can do with the tech these days compared to the first two movies. Imagine that Neo vs Smith fight in the 2nd movie with today's CGI? Whoa. :p

It's her sister now rather than brother, just to be clear. :)

Separately, I believe her younger sister Lilly was going through her operation during the filming of season 2 of Sense8 and so only Lana co-wrote and directed season 2 (they both did season 1). Not sure what Lilly is going through since then but seems like she's still pulled back from work. Lana (the older sibling) has always been the more outspoken and artistically inclined of the two of them so I think we're fine but yeah, been weird since Lilly stopped.

Ok, I had no idea both had transitioned, I wasn’t trying to insult or anything.

I just found it strange not to see both names attached to a franchise they are inexorably linked to, at least as a producer or something.

No worries, I was just informing, I didn't take it as you trying to be offensive or anything. :)

As for it being strange, it is, but the split happened between seasons 1 and 2 of Sense8 when Lilly transitioned. Not sure what's been up since that split out of necessity due to the transition (Lilly wanted to take time away from work) but it appears it is still ongoing.

Interesting. I knew Lana did Sense8 s2 alone, but I didn’t know the specifics.

  • 2 years later...

"You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes"

You get a different teaser depending on which one you click, so may as well try em both.

Fun hit of nostalgia that they're using WhatIsTheMatrix.com
