Emblazon
Really really good. Brick is still his best film to date. But the performances were fantastic. All around.
Mercury33
It was everything I hoped it would be. I love how he leaned into some tropes and circumvented others. There were so many little things in this movie that were just perfect.
TwinIon
I think this might be Rian Johnson’s best movie yet. He has a real knack for playing to and subverting expectations, both in plotting and in tone, but I think Knives Out does the best job of balancing everything throughout. It can be both preposterous and deadly serious, take sudden turns while also being fairly straightforward, feels relevant without being preachy or breaking character. Not that everything needs to become an IP, but I’d totally watch more with Daniel Craig’s detective character. I gather Rian Johnson has expressed some interest in doing so. He’s so fun and hammy, but his oddity is somehow both completely fitting and also at odds with the world of Knives Out. I’d love to see him be a fish out of water detective in any given scenario. So more whodunits from Johnson? Fuck, I can only get so erect.

Brick
Went to a matinee with the girlfriend tonight to see it, and it was delightfully fun. Rian Johnson continues to prove that he is one of the greatest writers/directors of his generation.
Chris-
That was really fucking good, and it further affirms that anyone who questions Rian Johnson because of TLJ should be fired into the sun.
Commissar SFLUFAN
I took my mom and sister to see it shortly after Christmas and they ABSOLUTELY LOVED it as I did EVEN MORE the second time around!

I can imagine it being just as good the second time around. My girlfriend pointed out, which I missed... Spoiler ...that the dogs tip off Ransom's guilt practically right off the bat... ...And I'm sure there are plenty of other things I missed! It was quite easy to forget stuff - even stuff that is obvious in hindsight - when the film kept dangling new carrots in front of you. TheLeon
Rian Johnson is quickly developing a new Beniot Blanc movie while apparently waiting to see what's going on with Star Wars. Normally, "let's rush out a sequel to the latest hit" would be a red flag, but Knives Out was written and shot within a year, so I believe in Johnson. Greatoneshere
I just saw this movie yesterday afternoon - it was really good! Great, dark black comedy riff on murder mysteries like Murder on the Orient Express. To me it felt like The Cabin in the Woods, but for the murder mystery/detective genre as opposed to the horror genre (they are very different, of course). So well made. Really entertaining. Bloodporne
I didn't really like it nearly as much as quite literally everyone else, including my girlfriend whom I went to see it with. I thought it was solid and quite entertaining but nothing above a 7/10 for me.

A VERY apt comparison. In both cases you really get a sense of the love and respect that the filmmakers had for the genre they are playing in with their respective films. Even the sillier aspects of the genre are lovingly embraced.

Knives Out is the more accomplished film but they are skewering different genres, so I'm taking that into account to be fair to The Cabin in the Woods. But both overturn every trope, make the woman the hero, indict systems that hurt us (the company in Cabin, rich, white, male and familial toxicity in Knives Out), and generally have a love for its genre while absolutely poking fun at it. I'll have to see Knives Out a few more times to really take it all in - it's not a perfect film but there's a lot to unpack.

Well, this film skewers even Clue but yes, it's like Clue in that it's a comedy that riffs on murder mysteries but this was far and away the more dramatic, better made, and more darkly funny (in subtler ways) film. Though I understand the comparison for sure.
Bacon
I saw the movie. I still hate TLJ, but I really liked this movie. Pretty good. I won't see it again in theaters, but I might when it hits redbox. And I very much look forward to a Benoit Blanc sequel. This movie really reminded me of some classic horror films because of one key aspect. I have said something similar in the past, but every time I see an actual movie, I just realize how shit the Disney's Marvel's Star War's era is. Not that they are bad movies, but watching these "real" movies is always a breath of fresh air.
