"No need to change anything, Americans, this whole thing is China's fault!"

According to the study referenced.  World emissions are up 10% over the last 10 years (the US's emissions are down 7%) -- more than half of the increase took place in China (which increased 20%).  Asia now represents 48% of total global emissions -- the US is at ~15%.

And yet the US has ~5% of the world population, and the bulk of US emissions reduction is from switching from coal to natural gas which can not only take us only so far and will suffer diminishing returns as we continue down this path. (And the related reduction in the transportation sector is almost completely offset by larger cars that eat up the efficiency gains made).

We shouldn't be throwing stones in glass houses if we won't meaningfully reduce emissions ourselves, let alone have a policy that even so much as pretends about pollution reduction.

You are reducing emissions -- and so is Europe.  The US and Europe are decommissioning coal power plants.

China is still building new coal plants, despite having 49% of the world's coal power plant capacity.  100% of new coal plants in development are in Asia.

I can't speak to Europe but here we don't even have a nonbinding plan to meaningfully move away from carbon, and that includes carbon from natural gas (otherwise you can easily defend the CCP "carbon intensity" bullshit metric) which is what is largely replacing coal. It's pushing, again, the hard work that needs to happen now down the line making changes more difficult. And if there is further increases in gas prices who is to say we won't backslide in the absence of policy? Hell, the majority of power plants going offline this year are existing nuclear plants! This should not be happening! (And I'm not even a big fan of nuclear because of my family history but recognize it's importance)

As an anti-natalist, this pleases me:

A growing number of people are reluctant to bring a child into a world that's set to be ravaged by climate change in the coming decades.

Yeah I'm not having kids, that's for sure.

I had multiple people come to the bar yesterday that were in town from Phoenix, and they all inevitably were like "this would be a lovely day in Phoenix." I'm like "ten bucks says you also have air conditioning, too."

We don't. I live in a basement and it's still 80 degrees in here. At my work it's about 90 degrees inside. When it hits triple digits here, there is nowhere to hide. You're in it to win it.

Air conditioned outdoor dining rooms are driving up electricity bills — and luring back customers.

Uh... Do they know how those things work?

Using one outside is like trying to cool your house by opening your refrigerator door.

I am really tired of the smoke. I think we have had 2 or 3 days since early May where you could tell the sky was blue. I haven't seen the stars in what feels like forever. It seriously can't be healthy unless you have the filtration of the casinos here to breathe this shit in all the time. To top it off, COVID is reestablishing itself nicely here.

It's the end of the world as we know it...
