Apparently TigerDirect is going to ship my card in mid-November. 😬

At least they told me.

I saw that they're doing basically pre-orders for when they get new stock. I was tempted, but with zero indication on what the waiting list was like I decided against that. Plus, they're charging a markup on their stuff. That said, I'm going to be real bummed when I don't get a new card before Cyberpunk. Though, at least I should be fine playing Yakuza 7 on a 1080.

So I played with the 3080 all day yesterday (not one crash!!) and this thing is a monster even with my low spec system (4790k/16gb ddr3/only enough ssd space for a handful of games rest are mechanical).

Probably can really ride this system out longer than I thought, or until I get tired of the ssd situation and want to upgrade to modern ones.

Really really happy with the performance, was never quite happy when I had the 2080ti but now the tech all seems like it’s there. Really the only thing I couldn’t max 4k/60 was AC Odyssey and that just took a 10% res reduction and I got there, I’m assuming if you have a more modern system the 3080 holds 4k/60 without needing that res reduction, game hits my cpu hard.

All the RT stuff is fine now since it’s 4k dlss/60 with it maxed out.

Also what the HELL is up with Forza Horizon 4’s optimization? I mean that in a good way, I know racing games tend to pull above their weight with various tricks but this is still open world with a lot going on. The game looks incredible fully maxed, maxed msaa, fully locked 60fps and my gpu usage is like 70%, and this doesn’t even have dlss. The new Fable is going to be nuts.

So far though, and I know @Rev will agree with me here, Mech Warrior 5 is the REAL standout game.

They emailed you? When did you sign up for notifications?

edit: nevermind It seems like I had some wrong info, according to their forums they're still way behind on shipping.

I signed up  September 23rd at 8am for all of the XC3 models on EVGA site, still no email yet. It seems like they're getting through about 1/3rd of a day per shipment, so at this rate it'll be like probably another 1.5-3 weeks before they email me.

Would you want an XC3 if I can get one?

*MAYBE*
I’m trying to hold out for a FTW model, but I might break if you get the email and offer it to me :p

I missed a FTW on Amazon by seconds. I saw the notification about 90 seconds after the alert was sent to my phone, got to the Amazon page, still had add to cart/buy it now, by the time I hit the BIN button, it brought me to an empty cart. :|

Anyway, @Mr.Vic20, how does Flight Simulator run on the 3090 compared to the 2080 Ti?

Anyone use a 55” TV as a pc monitor?  I ordered a Samsung Q90t but I’m thinking it might be way too big.  I’m thinking about canceling and spending a little more on a 48” LG CX.  I can sit about 6 feet away when using a controller but would be 3 feet away when using a keyboard and mouse.  I've been using a 43" TV for the past 5 years and it feels small at this point  I don't think I realized how much bigger a 55" was when I saw it in store.   Thoughts?

It really depends on what you play imo. For really action oriented game 3 feet is wayyyy too ****ing close, even 6 feet might be a little difficult to follow all the action. The general rule is you should never have to move your head to follow what is happening.

Now if you only play turn based rpgs or something you might be fine but my reccomendation is definitely stay on the smaller side if you plan to sit 3 feet away at any point.

Here's a helpful guideon size/resolution/distance:

What Size TV Do I Need? Here's how to figure out the size of TV set you should get and the distance away from your TV you should sit.

On the subjext of this. I have figured out why I keep waking up in the middle of the night and having trouble gojng back to sleep. The 3080. When I wake up I check to see if there are any notifications and if I take to long it wakes me up and I have trouble going back to sleep.

I wouldn’t recommend using an OLED exclusively for a PC monitor due to possible burn-in.

Thanks that was helpful!  It looks like 55" Should be fine for about 90% of what I use my PC for.  I try not use my keyboard and mouse for anything. I can only think of 4 games I've used my mouse and keyboard for in the past year and I could probably just play those in a smaller window.  I think I'll stick with the Samsung.

Newegg keeps teasing me with add to cart buttons for the MSI cards, but it always says out of stock when I go to checkout.

Same. Happens alot at best buy. I think I still have a card in cart actually.

At this point I might as well wait to see what RDNA2 is about.

I thought you used that as a TV as well, though, not for surfing the web/windows/non-gaming apps?

Same for me. Mostly gaming and video, but I do use it for the web for a non-trivial amount of time.

Not sure it it matters but I do:

- Use an aggressive screensaver, or just turn off the TV if I need to walk away

- Use dark themes for everything

- And use the gaming TV mode (obviously)

Those things should definitely help.
If you manually name the HDMI input you’re using to “PC” it goes into an even more aggressive anti-burn in mode than Game Mode. This doesn’t seem to be common knowledge, and I have no idea why LG hid this mode.

As it turns out, that is precisely what I named its HDMI port, just because :sun:

I went from a 40" 4K monitor to a 55" LG C9 OLED. Not gonna lie, it took about a week to get used to the added height. It felt ridiculous that entire week, then it suddenly 'clicked' and has been just absolutely amazing since. I was kicking myself at first because I knew the 48" CX would be coming out this year, but I was desperate to upgrade. Now that I'm used to the 55" though, I have zero desire to go for anything smaller!

As others stated, just take some basic steps to avoid screen burn-in. I'm one year deep so far with absolutely zero complaints. Well, my only complaint is that I don't have a HDMI 2.1 GPU to experience its 4K/120 glory, and it doesn't seem like that's going to change anytime soon!

Exactly what I wanted to hear. <3  I actually drew an outline of the 55" on my wall compared to my 43"(thank you iPad Lidar :p) and If I lean back it seems like it might be the perfect size.  If I'm not happy the quality of the Q90T I can always return it for the CX 48" or the 55" if I'm happy with the size.
