cusideabelincoln
I'm going to eventually break down and buy a HOTAS because I can't fly worth a shit with dual analog. Hmmm, wait a minute. I just had an idea. I wonder if I can set up custom controls with the Steam Controller, or a Dualshock, and take advantage of the gyros for flying. Update: Yes, indeed you can (manually) set up the Steam Controller and use the gyros for flying. Works pretty well and is more intuitive than the default dual analog scheme for me. Annoyingly I bought the game on EGS, so I had to manually add the .exe to Steam and thus it doesn't find any community-made configurations. Also I launch the game through Steam which then launches the game through EGS which then finally launches the game on Origin And I had to have Steam in Big Picture mode to get the key bindings I wanted, but after set up and testing the control scheme works fine in desktop mode. Kal-El814
I am so, so bad at this, but it is so, so, fun. If you like Star Wars ships and you have the chance to kick the tires on it in a VR headset, you really should.
AbsolutSurgen
Finally completed all of the missions, there were some interesting set-pieces/levels. Nothing compared to the variety in an Ace Combat game, but a decent amount nonetheless. Time to try and delve into the multiplayer. I haven't really played any modern space combat games -- but I find it strange how effective "yaw" (moving your nose to the left/right) is during combat. In plane combat games, to turn quickly, I tend to "roll" towards the plane and then use "pitch" (pulling back on the stick) to line them up. It's somewhat strange to be able to effectively "yaw" into them -- which is probably why Motive put the "yaw" on the right stick. It makes the controls on a gamepad much easier, and even though I haven't tried it, I would think that it would make it harder to play with a plane-oriented HOTAS. Just a note - The $2,000 (CERB) was basically EI but required no proof. So not everyone received it, just those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic. 850,000 people have already returned their payments since they ended up getting their job back after already being paid the CERB. Still a great program that saved millions of people from missing their rent/mortgage payments though!

The difference between CERB and EI was primarily: CERB took 1 minute to apply for online and the deposits started within 3 days CERB was a flat $500/wk rather than a % of your previous income There were additional income supports as well, but CERB was the main one for individuals. 69los
I played this briefly last night in VR and I, admittedly, geeked out just being in the cockpit in the hangar. Looking up and seeing the canopy close. Seeing the twin lasers to my left and right. Look behind me and there's my astro-mech. I felt like I was at a theme park. There was news today that EA has no plans for Squadrons DLC. I hope it's successful enough that they decide to make a sequel.
AbsolutSurgen
I'm starting to play the multiplayer -- there are a lot of BAD players out there. My favourite loadout for Dogfight is the A-Wing, with rapid-fire cannon, a combination of seeker mines (great for dropping after someone shoots a missile at you, more often than not they are killed by the mines), and quick-lock on missiles. Seems to really get more than my fair share of kills.
silentbob
Well I broke down, took advantage of my epic store coupon and bought the game. Took me forever to get the game to even work with downloading Origina, setting my shit up again with them and epic store, Nvidia needed and update, Oculus needs an update, download didn’t work restart computer, download error and so on. Finally after deleting and finally getting oculus app to download again it worked. Still a few issues with the cutscenes not properly resetting on set to curve flatscreen image, looks very crosseyed. When I finally got in the game it is kind of a geek moment behind your windshield. Tie Fighter was neat but X-Wing is geeking out, and then my VR froze and I was tired dealing with it. But it was cool while it lasted
The def star
I'm having a lot of fun with the MP and the story is ok. Pretty much teaches you the basics for the MP. I'm tempted to buy a Quest 2 just for this game.
cusideabelincoln
You guys on PC having frame rate issues? I have to set my refresh rate to 60 and lock Vsync to eliminate stutter, even though uncapped shows 100 fps.

The def star
They just released a patch for the HOTAS dead zone issue yesterday which I was having but didn't know it was a pretty wide spread issue. Can't wait to see if it fixed it for me playing on Xbox as I had to adjust a lot of my movements to be able to do well in dog fights. If you have high-refresh rate monitors, it's a known issue that EA is aware of and is planning to fix, apparently. On the topic of the game—I bought it and am enjoying it, but it's clear that the novelty will likely run out fairly fast. While they advertised all the different customization options for components, only a select few are actually useful, and the current meta is that bombers completely dominate Fleet Battles (especially the TIE Bomber). As long as the pilots are good, there is no reason not to go all-bomber because you can melt the enemy capital ships and stand your ground in dogfights due to the insane HP some hull options provide. I really wish they'd put more effort into the game and created a mission designer or something. The game is cool and is fun to play, but it's pretty limited. I have a feeling EA just pumped it out to make a quick buck before they lose the Star Wars license.

Hell I'd pay 59.99 or whatever if they made a more fleshed out game. (Have EA Play Pro so I technically wouldn't pay directly for it but would if I didn't)
CitizenVectron
Having a mission creator would be awesome, even if the overall options were limited to a few capital ships, etc. Would be cool to have escort missions, etc.

I think you're right about the relatively short shelf-life of the multi-player -- I can see myself getting bored of it in a few weeks. I'm playing with randos -- so the meta I'm seeing may be different. But, in most Fleet maps, while playing Rebel, I am seeing most of my squad mates in Y-Wings while I rack up the kills with an A-Wing on their bombers -- I went 25-8 last night against that strategy. The Tie Bomber is too slow/lumbering to deal with an A-Wing coming up its side (and the overcharge on an A-Wing rapid fire (and shields for that matter) lasts a LONG time after you move the energy flow. Tie Interceptor doesn't work quite as well though...

AbsolutSurgen
Quote Next week's 3.0 update adds new multiplayer map Forstar Haven, an asteroid trade hub folks might recognise as the backdrop for the game's prologue missions. With both ships staring down either side, you'll have the option to brave open space or risk weaving through claustrophobic tunnels to reach the opposing flagship. As a bonus, all ships classes are getting a few new tools to help them specialise further. Bombers will soon be able to load up with shield-piercing bombs, while support ships are getting a new kind of turret for blasting flagship subsystems and enemy deployables. It's next month's update that's really got me excited though. Update 4.0 is wheeling two stylish new starfighters into the hangar, the New Republic B-Wing and the Imperial TIE Interceptor.
