What backlogged games do you hope to get around to in 2023?

We’ve had threads about upcoming games.  What do you already own (or have on subscription) that you hope to finally get around to?

Expecting a kid early next year, so I’ll definitely have less time than normal.  I’m thinking some Switch catch-up is in order.  Leaning towards Mario & Rabbids, Luigi’s Mansion 3 (after I finish 2), perhaps Age of Calamity and Octopath Traveller.

I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting.

Hmm not counting some recent stuff that I didn’t get to but don’t consider really backlogged yet

Witcher 3 (started!)

Persona 5

Mass Effect Andromeda

Days Gone

Ys9

Assassins Creed Odyssey

Those are the quite backlogged that I’m really keen to play games, might be missing some, but I think those are the top ones.

AC I might not do next year just because I will likely play Mirage when it comes out next year so I may push that to 24 but we will c

Will you play Days Gone on The deck? I enjoyed that game but I don't think I beat it. Definitely underrated.

I would probably mostly play on deck with some on tv, it still looks pretty good on pc especially at 120fps so I’d want to try some of that on tv. Maybe half and half if the story sucks me in at all (I’m maybe 8 hours in or so and it hasn’t that much yet but I always hear the game picks up a lot after like 15 hours or whatever)

It doesn't have the best reputation but I think the first The Surge is a really good game. It actually has its own robust take on combat with bobs & weaves and dismemberment that seems to never get old. Like you can dismember the body part that you want to loot in terms of armor. Also, it's extremely atmospheric and nails a sort of uncomfortably visceral tech dystopia feel really well.

Highly recommend that game. It has its flaws and the last level gets absolutely bonkers with its level design but it's probably my favorite Souls style game not by From.

Persona 5 Royal & SMT 5, specially since I picked up P5R for Switch recently.

As a parent of a 14 month old, good luck there. I had no luck with trying to game while it slept. I spent most of my waking hours listening to japan youtuber content like trash taste because it's all I could manage. My major recommendation is to buy a Baby monitor like nanit from day 1 (that helped the most).

Thanks for the advice.  Got both a Eufy SpaceView sans wifi and a Wyze cam.  Two cam set up is probably overkill, but I think I'll like the option.

yeah I started it and played maybe five hours or so. I really enjoyed what I played although the game did feel like it needed more ranged combat given the setting. I heard the second one is actually better though.

I haven't played the sequel actually but your post reminded me to put ut on my wishlist.

A big seller for the first one for me is the ultra oppressive atmosphere. By the time you hit the third major area it looks like mech hell down there.

Gonna finish up xenoblade 3 (stopped playing for a couple months and I’m only about 75 hours in just got to the City) especially with the DLC coming out this year

I’m gonna try to get my daughter to play some Minecraft so we will see how that goes with her adhd. Untitled goose game may be fun with her as well. Gonna do some trial and error.

other than that I just got Skyrim anniversary edition (I’ve never played before!) for switch for $35 and Tony Hawk 1&2 remastered so between those and random bits of game I play here and there that should do it for me for all of 2023, not counting if my wife gets me a game for Christmas

I’ve learned that planning which game ill play (outside of major releases) is a complete useless endeavour. I expected to be beating Crisis Core, more Tactics Ogre, and replaying Witcher 3. Instead I am completely hooked on a pixel art RPG made by a single guy, which may have the best story I’ve played this year.

Yea...but for the Switch...

Reading comparisons to the PS4 version online and looking at screenshots there doesn't seem to be that much difference. At least not enough to justify me being able to take up the main TV to play it on PS4 when I can maybe get 1-2 hours a day max, and play on my switch

Plus you get to wield the master sword in the switch version. It's clearly the superior version to play!

Fair enough. Extremely good game so I hope you enjoy it.

Let me add two more games to the list of backlogged games I'll never finish... Wolfenstein 2 the World Order and The Saboteur. Both feature shooting Nazis... maybe I need to rethink that and play these games.

The Saboteur is a very underrated game of that gen imo! Had some thick ass atmosphere.
