Do you play the games you collect? I see your posts on this stuff a lot.

if it’s retro, there is a far higher chance I’ll play them fairly soon after getting them. If it’s modern it tends to go on the backlog and takes me time to get around to them.

I rarely play my PS5 and most of what I play on it is my ps4 backlog of Yakuza games, so I’ve only bought 1 ps5 game and it’s a yakuza game (the ps4 version was out of stock during a sale). I do put an ok amount of time into my switch as it’s easier to game on at night when I’ve got 15-30 mins. I’m currently playing Quake 2 & Neir but I will admit my switch backlog is getting out of control and there are a few games I might not play for a few years (but I mostly pick up games when on sale).

For my more recent pickups, the Neo Geo stuff will 100% get played sometime soon. The PC Engine stuff will get played as soon as I get my Analog Duo, due out this year. Bomberman 2 I technically already played 2 months ago (rom) on my Analog Super NT and just wanted an actual cart. Of the psp games, only two of them I’ve never played but 3 of the 4 will be played soonish and the other is just a sealed copy of a game I’ve already own digitally and played through (it was also very cheap to get). I’d say the main odd one out is the ps2 game Seven which I probably won’t play for some time but want to check out, mainly because it and Venus & Brave are related as V&B reused a lot of assets from Seven but is its own story. V&B I have played before on the ps2 long ago.

So TL;DR, yes if retro because I normally don't buy/play most modern games.

Sorry for the long messy text, dealing with a newborn recently. I’d gladly talk more about some of the retro games I pick up if people had interest in it. I’ve been recently feeling like my write ups with my pickup photos is a waste of time.

I for one appreciate them because they bring me back to my 20s (I’m 53) when I was making the kind of money where I could afford a Neo-Geo and its $100+ games, and import Japanese consoles and games such as the Famicom, Super Famicom, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, SuperGrafx, PlayStation, etc. I have very fond memories of gaming back then, and your retro game posts and pics bring them back for me.

I always read your posts on the retro stuff but I really don't have much to contribute because most of the stuff you post I don't recognize. I enjoy looking at the amazing box art from the stuff you posts. So your posts are definitely interesting and viewed even if not many contribute to it. For example, Phaseknox.

That’s the stuff that I basically grew up with, but while I have fond memories of it I also get depressed when thinking about it as well because I lost my well paying job in the early 2000s and was out of work and needed money so I sold off most of my game consoles and games for relatively cheap which I still regret to this day. Seeing @chakoo’s retro game pics bring back my fond memories of them, but also remind me of having to sell them as well which is depressing since I miss having them.

Yea, that's tough. I was in a financial jam last year and sold all my consoles and games too. Not nearly as big of a collection you had but I can understand to some extent. I have fond memories of gaming in my late teens and 20s too. I'm almost 42 so I'm an old man now. :(

Fair but sadly creates a cycle where I want to post more about said games to explain more but I see no response and just assume nobody cares. :p

I'll post some videos info soon on some of the games I got to show why I initially had an interest in them.

Yeah that sucks to hear and I can totally understand. I remember when I had to sell off stuff due to limited funds or just needing to drum up money to help my parents out.

I will admit I've become too much of a hoarder since the 3ds/vita as there is so many games I had in the past that I want to go back and play but the price for them is just stupid. I know retro games are in limited/low supply but I really hate what the pandemic and comic book collectors did to the retro market. The prices for some games no longer make sense and even some newer games are going for more than some older games. =/

Sorry to keep spamming this thread further (I'll make a retro what you playing topic in the future), here is a bit more on the psp games.

Top left is White Knight Chronicles: Origins. This game did get an english release in pal regions but not in north america. I just started playing my copy and feels like a PSO style game.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Knight_Chronicles:_Origins

The top right game is Tokyo mono hara shi: karasu no mori gakuen kitan. A much forgotten Atlus game that can kind of be looked at as persona game based around hanafuda cards. It's part dungeon crawler, part visual novel. I kind of think this one got ignored/forgotten because the VN portion of the game makes it look like the game is just an Otome game (VN produced for women/girls), yet it's more like a persona/etrian odyssey mixed game.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Mono_Hara_Shi:_Karasu_no_Mori_Gakuen_Kitan

The bottom left game is GachiTora! Abarenbou Kyoushi in High School. It's a pretty fun action game from Spike. It plays a little like spike's other series Kenka Bancho but battles instead play out as a heated argument while you fight it out. The game does have some questionable otaku crap (defeated enemies end up nakid, male and female) but past that the game is really fun/goofy. A bit shame this didn't get localized (specially when stuff like akiba strip does). I had this game digitally from PSN but saw a new copy was going for cheap while I was picking up other psp games.

The bottom right game is Venus & Braves. A beautiful 2D game frrom namco that originally came out on the PS2 then later got a PSP port. It's a tactical rpg that is a sort of sequel to Seven: Cavalry Troop of Molmorth, which is the ps2 game in my picture, where you configure the placement of your characters before battles but then durring battles you rotate your rows of characters around which will affect what they do for the next round (ie front row will attack, mid and back rows will support or do long range attacks). As I previously mention I use to have this game for ps2. I feel like if either game, V&B or Seven, they would be well regarded gems on the ps2.

Way too many in Japan. Mostly retro stuff, but I did grab Super Mario Bros Wonder, Detective Pikachu Returns, Pikmin 4, and NEO: The World Ends with You on Switch while I was there.

Bought Alan Wake 2 on PC when I got back.

Imo, Alan Wake is very good AND scary!

Soul Hackers 2

Messed up story regarding SH2 for me. When I got it on sale from amazon for a brand new copy they literally sent me a copy that was opened and look like a dog chewed it. It was the most WTF amazon issue I ever had. Luckily no issue with getting a replacement which I did but it still has me questioning how the hell that got shipped to me.

Nothing In quite awhile until yesterday when I bought FF16 from Best Buy for 29.99 after/$10 rewards certificate. Looking forwards to firing it up on the New 83" LGG3 tonight after everyone goes to bed! Still holding strong on Baldur's Gate III though. Fantastic game but waiting for sub $30 bucks as I have PLEANTY of games to hold my interest for probably 3 years at this point! lol!

Jesus you purchase a lot of games!

That's not a bad thing.

Recently I picked up Persona 5 Tactica and Super Mario RPG along with Spells and Secrets. And some other Indies, even though I'm still trying to finish up Sea of Stars and occasionally dipping into F-Zero 99.

Been a while since I posted one of these.  Black Friday pickups were Jedi Survivor ($17) and Crisis Core ($30), the November Humble Bundle ($6) and a preorder of FF7 Rebirth + Intergrade ($63) not pictured bought with gift card discount.  As for the rest, I spent another $7 on Lost in Random and Castle of Illusion.

My black friday switch/modern games hall. I posted about these in the BF thread but just adding in picture form. I've already cracked into Sonic Origins and having a blast. Of the rest I will probably start Rain Code to continue with my Danganronpa obsession from this year (It's by the same team). I still have one more BF hall photo to post when my 3DS stuff shows up (I'm pretty sure I spent more on 3DS stuff than the stuff above).

I've also gone down the Evercade rabbit hole. =/. Not posted but 3ish? months ago I got the irem cart on sale then saw they were making the Super Pocket. So I pre-ordered the Super Pocket & Full Void (Top left) which just came out on the 15th. In waiting for those I picked up the Toaplan carts and the top right cart. I've actually got 2 more carts on the way as the Duke Nukem collection carts are out this week. Over all I'm enjoying the pocket even though for the Taito & Toaplan stuff I have access to most on the game on the Taito Egrett 2 mini. It's kind of nice having a portable english Cadash to play.

Welp, $50 for Samurai Shodown with 4 of the dlc characters seems like it’s about as good as it’s going to get so I finally bought that. Saudi Arabia refuses to cut a deal I guess.

I’ll admit knowing who owns SNK makes enabling “blood and dismemberment” a littllllleeee awkward.

I think the steam sale ended so it just looks that way. I believe I've seen this on sale before. Looks like they are still working on the rollback for this game, sheesh.
