If you have a Top 10 for superhero films, what would it be?

Recommended Posts

We've been saturated to the point where most big releases seem to be superhero/comic book films, something that used to be more rare, especially prior to 2012. But we're also at the point where there are so many that there may be quite a bit of variety in what people feel are the ones that stand out to them. Here are some of the biggest ones that broke weekend records:

Oooh, fun. Truthfully, I'm not good at lists like this. I know my general favorites and I can always say what my top one or two are, but beyond that, the order is interchangeable.

Best list would go something like this:

X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men: First Class

Black Panther

Thor: Ragnarok

Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: Civil War

Batman Begins

Avengers

Avengers: Endgame

The Dark Knight

The Top 3 are pretty set in stone. The rest don't have a solid order. I really didn't get much into comic book movies until the Nolan Batman trilogy and the MCU.

Days of Future Past is up there for me as well. If I watched it again, I may feel The Incredibles is high up there, but I don't know if I have the same opinion of it as others did (for years, I know many on IGN considered it to be Pixar's best film).

While I enjoyed the MCU Spider-Man films, particularly Spider-Man, I'm not as in love with MCU as plenty of others from the ones I've seen. However, I have heard Winter Soldier is one people recommend to people who aren't 100% sold on MCU's style/atmosphere. I'm sure one day I'll just sub Disney+ and give it a watch.

Having rewatched the entirety of TDK trilogy, I feel at least TDK and TDKR would probably be up there for me, the latter feeling even more relevant a decade later.

Oh, I figured you'd seen most of the MCU stuff. Definitely watch Winter Soldier, it's fantastic. I kinda wanted to add it to my list, but I just really loved the feel of First Avenger more.

The Nolan trilogy will always be my favorite. But Batman was always the superhero I loved since I was a kid, even though I've never been much into reading comics.

I have to admit I really only like Batman Returns and The Dark Knight that I can think of.

I was never a comic book reader and the absolute fascination with anything superheros, in the past few years especially, totally eludes me. Somehow those screenshots up there already bore me.

Well, some of them were not picked to be the best scene of the movie. :p

The only one that I'm sure won't show up on anyone else's list is Superman 3. It's the first movie I had on VHS, and I absolutely murdered it as a kid. I haven't seen it in 30+ years, and have no plans to revisit it, but the pure nostalgia is inescapable for me.

Hmm. I’m sure this list changes all the time. And in no particular order...

Blade II

Spider-Man 2

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Superman (1978)

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Thor: Ragnarok

The Dark Knight or Batman Begins (I waffle too much to pick one)

Logan

Black Panther

And obviously the best superhero movie of all time...

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

I might punt the Nolan Batflicks in favor of The Incredibles depending on my mood.

Spider-Verse took me by surprise in so many ways.

A little while ago, my 12 year old niece, who has never really shown any interest in superhero movies, asked to watch Into the Spiderverse. When I was watching it with her family, it really struck me just how much of a miracle that movie is. It should be an impenetrable mess for everyone who isn't deeply invested in comics lore, but it isn't. It just works.

The fact that it’s so accessible is a big part of the appeal. The MCU has a lot of winks and nods to the source material which works fine as Easter eggs for comics fans. Spider-Verse is like that for almost 100% of its runtime and it all works better than those individual bits in the MCU, it’s incredible.

I'm not huge on superhero movies, especially Marvel. So I don't really have a top 10.

Batman Begins

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Rises (easily the weakest in this list)

Logan

Watchmen

Constantine

Do these count as superhero movies?

Split

TMNT (1990)

Scott Pilgrim

Marvel Movies I wouldn't mind watching again

Winter Soldier

Civil War

Ragnarok

Doctor Strange

I love how different everyone's list is.  I think it is great to have so many different opinions represented.

I'm not sure what my total top 10 would be but it would for sure include

Superman 2

TMNT 90's original

The Crow

Road to Perdition

X-Men (the first one - I know it does not hold up but I loved Wolverine as a kid and this was the first glimpse of him live action)

Avengers Endgame

Not sure of the rest for now.

I never think of Blade as a superhero movie, though I guess they are. I don't think any would make it in my top 10, but I honestly have a soft spot for Blade: Trinity, mostly because of Ryan Reynolds

In no particular order:

Guardians of the Galaxy

The Avengers

Black Panther

Wonder Woman

Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: Civil War

Batman Begins

Thor: The Dark World

Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse

Deadpool

We watched Blade which was my first time seeing it last week and it was very good, it surprised me, really ahead of its time.

When I saw Blade 1 it got a standing ovation in the theater at the end. I'll never forget that. It was a badass film.

Exactly what I was thinking. When asked this in 2005 after Batman Begins, I feel as if most people's lists were roughly the same whenever it was brought up. Now there's so much out there.

i need you to explain this one

I think ragnarok could easily replace it, but honestly I love how silly it is. It's the same reason iron man 3 is my favorite iron man movie. It's stupid, and it knows it's stupid. The final fight in the dark world could have been pulled from monty python. I was laughing my ass off for most of the movie
