The following current gen games tend to receive hate from a lot of critics and/or gamers, but I like them:

Assassin's Creed Unity

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Darksiders III

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Fallout 4

Final Fantasy XV

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

Killzone: Shadow Fall

Mafia III

Mass Effect: Andromeda

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst

Need For Speed: Payback

The Order 1886

Rage 2

Shenmue III

Are there any hated current gen games that you like?

I don’t think I have anything that controversial

Unity - I didn’t play it when it came out so didn’t have bug issues and I enjoy AC stuff.
Driveclub - it deserved all the shit it got. But once I eventually played it I actually liked it.

Mass Effect Andromeda. I enjoyed the game, even if it was janky as fuck. Even with a few crashes, two instances if corrupt saves that would load indefinitely (where I also discovered the game autosaves while loading the save), audio randomly being muted, occasional flickering textures,  a few broken missions where I couldn't scan objects that needed to be scanned, and a bunch of other things I've erased from memory.... Yeah, I still enjoyed ME Andromeda.

Hotline Miami 2

Basically the sequel 'nobody wanted' apparently? I really love this game.

The Evil Within

I just really like this game and most people's issues with it seem to be what I like about it. It's silly, demented, has a dumb story and is almost exclusively concerned with being a carnival ride of cool gameplay. One of those games I didn't pick up until it was like $10 used and I kept waiting for it to suck based on the reception.

Definitely me on this one. I actually like MEA a lot. I played on PC and after the first few patches, it was fine and otherwise a lot of fun. Has some really funny sequences too.

That's why you gotta play post patches!

Or not, if you want more humor :p

ME Andromeda for sure.  It doesn't have the magic of the trilogy which kept me playing those over and over again, but it was very solid.

AC Unity also is easily one of the better Assassin's Creed games. If you play it all patched up, it's very good and has none of the issues that plagued its launch.

Being older this generation, I've not had as much time to play games (and in turn, play bad games) so I can't really think of any...maybe Zombie U? I had a great time with the game and it was the first Wii U game that I completed. I remember at the time the game receiving criticism for how long it took to kill enemies and due to the way death was handled, a lack of engagement with the characters. Regardless though, it was an interesting take on the Zombie genre and a great example of using the Wii U gamepad.

Does Elder Scrolls Online count? I mean, sure its been fairly successful and has a pretty big player base, but you wouldnt know it by asking anyone lol. I've probably put a good 700 hours into it over the past six years or so.

Also Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It just wasnt a good game, but for some reason it clicked for me.

I totally think Zombi U (the wii u version specifically) was way underrated. Its weird and clunky at first, but once you understand the way the game works it was actually pretty brilliant.

I used to get shit for saying The Evil Within is a better game than Resident Evil 4.  It's true though. It took what made RE4 a good game and modernized it.

I don't hate The Evil Within, but the second game is far, far better.

I don't know if this qualifies because it's not this gen and it was lauded on release, but people seem to have turned hard on Bioshock Infinite, which I think is pretty amazing.  I played through it recently as part of the Bioshock Collection and though it's not as good as the first one, the environments are amazing and the moment-to-moment gameplay is the best of the three in my opinion.

I liked FFXV.  It started weak but turned into a real fun game.

I didn't realize Fallout 4 was hated...I thought it was pretty good.

Most would probably be considered mediocre because gamer and video game review logic often denotes a 7.0 is too bad to be worth playing. It's tough to think of many games with actual terrible reviews (5.5 or lower) and word of mouth that are worth playing though.

While these games get some hate from some people, I don't think that they're hated by the mass majority. I understand the disappointment that some have with Red Dead Redemption II because I have it too, but I still like it for the most part. Days Gone and The Evil Within are both really good, and I haven't seen a lot of hate for either of them.

I have it (Zombi) for PS4, and really like it.

Agreed these seem like just mediocre to sub par games

Perhaps hate is too strong of a word for some of them, but I've definitely seen a lot of people hate on them, some more than others of course. While I acknowledge that some of them could be considered average, I don't feel that any of them are mediocre to subpar.

A lot of critics gave Days Gone sub 7 reviews, enough to push its Open Critic rating to 71%.  Totally undeserved, and the majority public reception now tends to disagree with that.  But that’s because the strange exception people took to its existence finally died down.

I gave Ghost Recon Breakpoint more time than it probably deserved before i finally accepted that it just wasnt going to click with me...

... now i havent played with the new “realism” options, i just wont venture in because frankly its the overall gameplay loop thats busted... it has bad enemy AI..

After much resistance i have now started working through assassins creed unity.. there have been some cool ideas and the game is definitely growing on me despite the downgraded parkour..

You can count me in on Fallout 4. I think it’s really good, but people are burnt out on the formula. Can’t blame them, but I wasn’t at the time.

Red Dead certainly had its haters on this forum, but I enjoyed that.

I’m blanking on others right now. Was battlefield 4 well received? I fucking love that game and seem to remember it took a lot of flack.

There is no "majority public reception" to Days Gone. Hence the 7s seem accurate!

Only half of critics recommend it.  More than 4/5’s of user reviews do.  Majority consensus is that it’s underrated.  Loud minority is still loud.

I personally believe I deserve a medal for just how much RDR2-hating content I've contributed to this forum.

I felt (as I was playing Red Dead Redemption 2) that it would be a fantastic game to be 15-16 and play through. Have all the time in the world, really invest in the world, complete every side mission, git gud at online

For me, it was a good story wrapped up in an OK game.
